Australia to wear commemorative jersey

After it was revealed earlier this week that England will wear a special shirt to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Rorke’s Drift Test, Australia will also do the same this coming Sunday.

The Kangaroos will wear a traditional maroon and blue jersey, to offset the red and white shirt England will be wearing for the game.

And Australia captain Cameron Smith insists it will be an honour to wear the special jersey, which gives a nod to the history of Australian Rugby League.

“It’s always an honour to wear the green and gold but to wear the colours of the original Kangaroos is a real privilege,” Smith said.

“We are forever mindful of the future of the Kangaroos but it’s so important to also remember and honour those who played before us.

“The Rorke’s Drift Test is one of the most famous Test matches of all time, so to be able to celebrate it on such a stage, against England at AAMI Park, will be special for me as well as for my teammates.”
