1. Finally get around to starting some new educational courses. Tempted to do an OU Engineering degree. Haven't done it over the years because I keep telling myself I'm too busy but then spend far too much time on this computer doing nothing constructive. All purely personal interest stuff, not career related.

2. Get rid of nuisance clients. I have some clients who refuse to listen to sense, even in strongly worded written opinions, then get very snippy when I submit invoices for having to spend extra time fixing their faults caused by them simply not listening. The same people who expect me to drop other clients to respond to their needs immediately. The same clients who tend to take 60+ days to pay invoices and tell me I can take my business elsewhere if I don't like their finance policies. They may bring in money but I think I'll be taking up that option in the last sentence for three clients. I'll probably lose 15-20% of my workload and income but my stress levels will go down by far more and I'll be far happier working for clients who respect me. I "sacked" one client last year for refusing to be civil to me, he shouted at everyone and worked on a manage by intimidation method; he got really shouty when I told him that I wasn't an employee and wouldn't take that; thankfully, we were still at the pre-project planning stage and I could walk away without contractual liability.

3. Spend more time with family. I get home probably once a year these days to visit family and it's a rushed affair over two weeks trying to get everyone in. A good few of my family members aren't in great health and are certainly not getting any younger so I know I'll regret it heavily if I don't take the chance to spend time with them.

4. Improve my diet. Cut out more salt, cut out snacking, ensure I eat plenty of fruit & veggies, cut my drinking a bit and eat fewer takeaway and restaurant meals.

That'll do as headline resolutions...

Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

How are people doing with their Resolutions?

I haven't lost as mush weight as I would have liked to by now, however I'll keep plugging away.
I haven't spoken to any of my friends in two weeks, while this isn't a resolution, it is part of being happier on my own.
I am doing more of the things I want to do, but being selfish takes longer than a fortnight.

That's tough, especially if you'd lasted over two weeks.

I managed to give up five months ago today. I hadn't really planned to, I just woke up one Sunday morning in August and decided 'that's it, no more'. It's worked... so far!

I don't what's made the difference this time. Even three years ago when I was seriously ill and diagnosed with sky high blood pressure I couldn't give up. I was puffing away again after only a month. Since then I tried and failed to give up several times. This time I think the lack of planning helped, I just did it.

Don't worry though, there's always next time. wink.gif

Done biggrin.gif Two clients informed that I am no longer available to them. One other put on notice that they either start paying more promptly or I will withdraw future services.

It took a while, but I'm doing ok with mine now. Not quite the slim jim just yet or the strong silent type but not as down and cheerier then late 2009.

If anybody cares...

So far, two months off work is sorted, trip to Borneo to work at orangutan sanctuary sanctuary and other travels is booked, now I just have to sort out the rest of my life biggrin.gif

Half the year gone, maybe worth a bump.

Next weigh in tomorrow but we're talking about 3st lost. I'm not one for cool.gif -ing but I will cool.gif that. That is also without any pills, surgery or special/fad diet. I can't see why I couldn't do another 3st by January 1st. I shall try my best anyway.

Really happy chappy too. Considering not much else has changed.
