They were certainly impressive on Friday, however not having seen every team yet for a full game its hard to judge them as the best so far. Wakefield may have something to say about it.

Wigan really impressed me on Friday.

The thing is for no team to get carried away after just a couple of games. Look at Hull last year. Look how people had written Saint off last week. Look at Leeds' terrible start. Warrington have had a good start but I've no doubt there will be some turbulent times for us during the season (maybe this Saturday).

Would agree with Padge that Wakefield would have something to say about it. Wigan have won two games where they were favourites, Wakefield didn't.

One of the key things this year for Wigan has been the stability in the squad with Deacon being the only new signing.

Michael Maquire has done a magnificent job so far, they look fit, keen and are playing with team spirit.

Wigan have been the most impressive team so far, imo.

From what I've seen I'd agree that Wigan look the best. Saints will come good, Warrington will be there or there abouts, Leeds have had a poor start. Wakefield have over achieved and will slip by the wayside, and if Huddersfield have only minor distractions off the field then they will challenge too.

Apart from that svelte, athletic Riddell chappie playing at hooker - what a coincidence that he has exactly the same name as last year's hooker. ;)

Seriously, look at Wigan all the years since they were at the top of the game. The number of years they've started a season with a stable and established halfs-hooker-loose forward combination can't be very many.

Wigan have looked good, namely because of their aggressive attitude.

Obviously this down to the coach and it's only their first few games under him so they're still bsuting to impress. If they continue to improve their attitude and do so over 80 mins they'll be right u there.

Time will tell.

Wigan have been coming back for a couple of seasons now, The only thing they have lacked has been a different coach, You only have to look at the fittness and weight loss of some of their players to see the difference he is making, They will be up with the best this season.

Dont expect anything from a pig but a grunt

We'll see. What with Warrington looking to be depleted in the pack this weekend, it may not be until we play Leeds or Saints that the true mettle of this new regime will be apparent. It is looking very good, though.

The Coach is the difference.

So you noticed that also?

I have been called so often for my criticism of Noble, especially in the G/B England role. To put it simply I do not believe that he is a very accomplished coach without the type of player he favours, ie bigger and faster than the opposition, without these commodities he is useless. Proven!

I am wondering if at Wigan there has been a deliberate ploy, from a certain quarter, to avoid wholesale change of playing staff in order to demonstrate the decision to sack the coach was a necessary action?

Just an observation. but the proof (should they do very well) could well be in the pudding come October.

So you reckon that if Wigan win the GF with a squad totally chosen and assembled by Noble (but with the addition of Deacon - a player favoured by Noble for club and country) then it'll prove that the bloke's a useless coach.

Yer... riiight!

wigan have been the stand outs so far this season, mainly at their attempts at slowing the opposition down at the play the balls. apart from huddersfield theyve got the control of the ruck off too a tee and are by far the best at it.

this is why i think theyre looking good. rugby wise they look pretty average apart from 1 or 2 occasions in the games theyve played.

Can I just point out that we have only had 5 TV games so far, so how can people make these kind of judgements?

Wigan have only been on once, and played very well against KR. I can't comment on them in the Crusaders game, and neither can most others on here.

There may be an argument that they have put the best individual performance in by any team so far this year, but I repeat that they were actually favourites for that game, whereas the likes of Wakefield and Cas were both massive underdogs for their wins over Leeds.

This isn't to knock Wigan, I have already stated they were excellent on Friday, but then I suspect that had I seen Cas or Wakey beat Leeds, I would have been saying they were excellent too.

Hull followed by Wigan for me.

Although Bradford were terrible against Saints, they threw a lot at Huddersfield and didn't really get a sniff and that Huddersfield performance was something. It was this excellent team that Hull beat and they made Saints look a bit silly.

I'll look forward to seeing them when they are on Sky.

Hull's was the best win of the year, which sounded excellent on the tv. Wigan are going ok, but results at this stage are very unreliable, given that the teams will have trained to be at their best at different times. A fast start was important to Wigan because of the enw coach and the difficulties of previous years, while Leeds may have hoped to coast through the first few games and peak for Melbourne.

You would expect things to change with a new coach and to a point he is in his honeymoon period now. He will have changed some stuff and introduced some new stuff and that is now on two DVDs for the other coaches and refs to watch, study and handle. Last year I think Huddersfield did great with their plan A brought in by the new coach but didn't get the prizes because the coaches/teams who could nullify plan A had no problem with plan B. Likewise, when the refs decided that the Giants way of bending the rules was not going to happen they could struggle for discipline. Wigan may get to go through the same experience but a big difference is that the coach of Huddersfield does not get his ###### spanked for losing in finals and semi finals whereas the coach of Wigan can find it a whole different world once the expectations get up there.

Calling Wigan for the trophies after two games, putting Lunt in the England starting line up after one game, it all happens too slowly for some folks. If we had a 5 week season Hull would have been grinning last year but the 27 week season left them in tears as I recall. There is a long way to go with many twists and turns to negociate which is why it is fun.

They look good. It's their norm to start the season somewhat slow but they appear to have hit the ground running. I've only seen the HKR game but the fitness levels and controlled aggression are there for all to see. Long may it last.
