Atmosphere at away matches...

The fans are amazing at away matches, we sometimes outsing rival fans on their own turf. Why is this not the same at home? Are we too spread out pherhaps? What can we do to raise noise levels and atmosphere to make the 'Big Fellas' stadium a fortress this year? Ideas anyone...

Could always rip the terracing out behind the sticks to stop the fans spreading too much, a la Dewsbury!!!

Think certain fans must go to home matches with non travelling family members/friends, and don't want to be seen showing their passion like they do on the road

The weak conform, the strong survive.

Bullock Shed at the railway end wud easily sort the problem.

Meanwhile everyone that wants to "SING YA HEARTS OUT FOR THE LADS" Needs to come into the family stand near the drum and join the few that is trying to create an atmosphere.

The players, coaching staff and board have done their bit , its time we did our bit and cheer the lads onto victory every week.

They Play With Style And Virtue, Put Their Bodys On The Line, Always Battling For The Victory, They Always Did The Best They Could, Sing Out For Fev Rovers, Blue N White Is All We Know. Stand Up Proud. Swell Your Heart. You Gotta Let Them Know, Are We Human, No We Are Rovers

trouble is i like it near the drum, but one of the 'older' members of my group doesnt like being near the drum or Ann...understandable i guess but disapointing. we have the fans, we have the lungs, we have the songs we need to become the 14th man every home match!

UP THE ROVERS!

I remember back in the 70's when there were a strong contingent of nutters behingd the sticks every week, it created some real atmosphere, you can't create an atmosrhere when you're sat down in the family stand, we need to all get behind the sticks again, and leave the families with little un's in the stand. You are closer to the action too so can get swept away on emotion a little easier, plus giving banter to the opposition players is a little more intense and fun.

If ya somewhere near then you can have an influence.

The drum isnt used very often, cant say same bout Anne but we pay our money and support the team as we wish.

Bless Anne Thorpe.

Summat needs doing, the atmosphere shouldnt be better away than at our home games.

Really enjoyed today 100% more cos it was like being back in tha Bullock Shed

Not just unique to following Fev. I bet its the most for most Rugby teams that the away following is more vocal. Its certainly the case in football too.

Just like the 10 of us who went to the club house to welcome the players home ? Yep a whole 10.

Tim, I can see where you are coming from on this one, but please do not put the bulk of the supporters down. We always stay ten minutes after the game and give the lads a warm ovation upon a job well done.

I went to a "do" once were players were supposed to be attending and I saw 2 first team players. People have lives outside rugby sometimes.

and your point is?

To be honest there was no point to be made. I just was reading peoples thought about the game. I'd been to the game thought that we had played well so decided to stay (As mentioned on the forum) and Welcome the lads back. I realise that others do have a life. Just thought that the players would have liked to given a better welcome home. Sorry if I upset anyone.

fair do's...I think john63 covers it best 'People have lives outside rugby sometimes' fetching a trophy back might get a few in though

There are no strangers at Post Office Road, only friends who haven't met.

We need to fill up the family stand to increase the atmosphere. Last season on the big games when it was quite full it encouraged most of the fans to sing along. Its hard when it is half empty, also to be fair we haven't played a team that we know we are going to be up up against it only sheffield but they don't bring enough to be able to wind up.You can't get excited by hammering Rochdale. As soon as the big games come along the atmosphere will improve. Everyone enjoys there own view of the ground at home i like to be near 1/2 way to see most of the game others like to be behind the sticks. But the noise carrys better from the family stand lets fill it.

:D so who s gonna come join us for the whitehaven game? You know the players deserve it and you never know you may even prefer the excellent view from high up in the family stand, but hey dont pinch my seat . Just thinking, last season there was a coach load of rugby lads from Knottingley who turned up for 2 games and they all joined in with the singing, wonder wot happened to them. We did play poorly at the majority of our home games last season so they may have been put off .

Right we have the same problem at barrow.

We should be load on sat though as we will be aready bouncing as a large amont of us will be watching barrow afc, and will be in the mood,

but heres what can be done

1 noise is made stood up, sitting down is not as good

2 flags, make you feel at home

3 balloons, party feel- lets people know your here to sing, and support, makes others feel, well they look like ##### and arnt emmbarrased, so we can sing and not embarrased,

btw. Be really quiet at the your next away game, make others see how it affects the players.

The atmosphere that used to be generated in th Bullock Shed was second to none. I'm not sure why it wasn't done at the time but I feel that there was potential to build the community stand at the railway end of the ground and build a suitable score board with it. This would have left us with three covered areas of the ground and still obtained the desired effect. I'm sure that there was a perfectly good reason why this didn't happen.

Another option that could be considered would be to remove one or two centre sections of seating from the community stand to allow a standing option at the side of the pitch. I'm sure a top quality atmosphere could be whipped up for the lads there, almost a little like a new bullock shed, but keeping the seating option as well. The negative side you could say that this maybe would down grade the standard of the stadium. On a positive note it would increase the stadium capacity a little and maybe get back that atmosphere that assisted in making POR a difficult place to come away with any points. With the potential for the plans for the new stadium to be followed through surely this alteration wouldn't cause us major problems, however I haven't got a clue about the finacial implications it may incur. Just a thought!
