How long until they bring out a decent England shirt? The last 2 have been been pretty poor designs. Especially the current one. Surely it should be tighter 'moden fit' for the players?? I don't own either of them, would even buy the cur as I really don't like the fit of the current one. Obviously the replica one shouldn't be skin tight but surely it would be nicer for it to be a little 'fitted'?

Design suggestions?

As I say I'd prefer a tighter 'modern RL fitting' RL shirt design. I'm a neutral RL fan, as I was born in Gateshead but wasn't brought up there and wasn't brought up with RL. I don't like the collar designs on a lot of RL shirts (especially the 'Samurai' ones) but I must admit I do like the 'Grandad Collar's on the Widnes/Wigan jerseys. So, therefore, I'd prefer a white 'Wigan' jersey with the Puma under the collar/on either sides of the collar and the badge on the left side of the chest. Or I guess a fairly stiff traditional polo/shirt -type collar would probably look nice and please everyone.

I guess Gillette wouldn't agree to just being on the back so I guess their logo should be across th lower ribcage but possibly a little smaller if possible?

As for material I've no quarms with thick polyester/elastane blend but I must admit the cotton/polyester blend they user for the Maroons SoO jerseys would be much nicer.

Have you seen your average RL crowd - shape and size laugh.gif

Just because you're now getting fitter playing the game, doesn't mean the rest of them have got the girth to be held back by a flimsy bit of material laugh.gif

I of course would join you in a slim fit version wink.gif but would be stood or sat about 3 stands away from any young fit blonds

Hey, where's the love for the hot brunnettes and redheads, ay?... cool.gif biggrin.gif

I have a 36" waist, so I'm certainly not slim by any stretch of the imagination (I enjoy working out at the gym so luckily don't have a huge waist), but definely would prefer one that's slightly nipped in/tapered at the waist slight so it's more flattering (hah).

What's wrong with have 2 'fits'? 'Slim fit' and 'normal fit'? Surely if they had a nice design at the OTT price they'd sell it at and volume it would make sense to give people the choice? Although if they did have options like that I'd hope they would go over £50 and start charging RFU prices like £90+... ohmy.gif

i'm with you dave. would never buy an england top myself (I'm Scottish), but I own a load of RL jerseys, and normally choose the 'Grandad' type collar ones myself.

One thing worth noting.... I think teams should shy away from the round neck designs. for me, these look too much like a t-shirt or training top, and i would simply refuse to pay 50 quid for a t-shirt. perhaps that is a peculiarity of mine, but it is how i feel.

ye - decent idea. they could call it 'player fit' and 'supporter fit'. I think a small premium on the player fit ones would be reasonable, but not a 90% increase on the price of the other ones.

I don't even think 'player fit'. I just think tapered in slightly (3"-4"? Maybe a little more?) and don't see why they'd have to have a mark up? It'd be less material anyway. biggrin.gif

We're not RU... I don't think all our supporter jerseys have to be 100% cotton and made by Cotton Traders... laugh.gif

I caught the end of the repeat of England vs Barbarians (mere seconds might I add) and I loathe that all white England union shirt. Pathetic pimples aside, it's just too f*cking dull, apt for the sport really. But a plain white shirt is a rip off.

The last England/GB shirt I really liked was the 2007 one. Not too jazzy but with a strong V. I also liked the England shirt worn a few years ago, with crosses on the sleeves. This current one isn't striking enough and the World Cup one was sh!te.

There's been some decent England RU shirts in the past but the current ones have been pretty dull it has to be said. I really don't like those 'pimples' either.

I think white/'off white' (?) jersey with a fairly thin solid red cross down the right hand side (from the shoulder to the rim?) could work? A bit like the '95 kit one but thinner lines (say 2-4cms?) and the downwards line down the middle of the right pec? I guess they could use a 1 or 2 other colours (like the England footy shirts with blue on them in the past? (examples: HERE, HERE & HERE )) but just keeping it simple.

Quite a few years ago I got a couple of RL jeseys from an Aussie firm called Tribal Colours. They used to do 'Players' and 'Supporters shirts'. The players weight, I think, was identical in every way to the ones worn by players, but the 'supporters shirst' were more light weight, cost less, but were identical to the team shirst except they didn't have the sponsors logo on. Always thought that was a good idea.
Sorry, but can't find a link that works to Tribal Colours.

I'm currently wearing the Widnes Away shirt at present, which I bought just because I like the design (being a neutral I guess I can get away with it laugh.gif ), but I like the heavyness of the material and even though it's not all that tight it's a decent fit. But as I say for some reason the fit of the england shirts just looks like a really poor fit (both the replica & players shirts).

Maybe they could have the material slightly thinner but don't want to make it a freakin' footy shirt! laugh.gif [having said that does anyone believe that production and shipping in aaaanywhere near £40-£50 for each jersey? I think the mark-up on all footy and rugby shirts in huge. Even if the player's jersey's were mass produced, surely they'd be a heck of a lot less than £40-£50 per shirt]

Thinking about the sponsor's logo doesn't really affect the supporters but the likes of Gillette may not be too pleased, if they were the sponsor on the next jersey? I just wish the RFL could get a 4-5 year sponsorship deal with a sponsor and just have a well designed jersey for the next 4-5 years.

I'd like England to pick a design and stick to it, only changing the badge of the manufacturer and the sponsor from time to time. By and large, Australia and NZ do this (with slight tweaks to the chevrons). England can't wear a red vee on a white background. Too Saints for my liking. Maybe a red saddle on a white shirt with blue collar, numbers and cuffs.

The current shirts and the one from the world cup are horrible and they charge people who are mad enough to buy this garbage up to £50 with delivery.

The RFL need to design a shirt... no the RFL need to get a designer to design a shirt that fans can wear not just at games but when going out with the family, few beers with the lads in the pub. And keep the same shirt for more than a couple of years so people start to recognize the shirt and build up a bit or awareness of the England RL Brand.

Agree with a lot of this thread.

HappyDave - shirts should defo be a better fit. Tapered in would make a lot of difference. I genuinly think a shirt that has a good fit will actually get a load more people to buy it. I remember when the World Cup Shirt came out. I went to JJB on the day of release as I was going to the WC and wanted the top. After seeing it I couldnt bring myself to buy it on the day, quality was that poor (didnt mind the design too much actually!). I eventually bought it anyway but only cos I sort of had to!

We need a traditional design that we can stick to. Agree the Red V is a bit 'Saints'. Maybe we should have gone for something toally different - a red shirt with a white V and white trim on arm and collar? A bit different and would look good if we stuck with it. Really make RL stand out as a national team. Red shirts already go down really well in Soccer.

Really good idea but wouldn't a red shirt with a white 'v' be a bit too similar to the RU ('pre-purple'/IRB 7s series?) and 'footy' away shirt designs (the ones that try to emulate the '66 design?)? Should the RFL also think about redesigning the England RL ensignia? As it's not all that great really?

The previous england insignia/badge was perfectly good. Three lions, St george cross and the English rose. Lovely.

The current one looks like the sort of shoddy generic that you get on petrol station world cup shirts.

That aside, I do like the current england shirt design: in fact I've just bought one because work is having an 'Engerland' day when the football team plays their world cup game on a wednesday afternoon and we've all been invited to wear our England shirts for the game.

Interestingly, the German girl at work has told them that she'll be shouting for the opposition and has requested two hours off to watch Deutchland.

I think it would really stand out as a RL shirt, where as now if anyone walked down the street in an England RL shirt outside of the M62 then doubt it wouldn be noted as an RL shirt - if anything it would probably be seen as a Gillette freebie for the Soccer WC!!! We need to create a strong RL England brand. We dont have thta yet, altho I think the RFL are really trying in this area. They just employ some numpties.

Agree that the badge could maybe have a re-design. Looks cheap.

totally agree mate. I don't have the problem of 'too similar to a club jersey' being non-english, but what about white with a DOUBLE red vee? (Kangaroos style).

I feel that to be clearly RL, a jersey needs the Vee. It is the sport's USP effectively.

that could look really good, I sometimes think there is too much grasping for a few quid by changing the design constantly, there should be more desire to get a recognised design akin to the NZ or Aussie ones
