Eagles talks over return for Burnett
Sheffield Star
Published Date: 09 June 2010
By James Collins

BACK-row forward Mike Burnett is set to return on loan to boost Sheffield Eagles as they seek to come back after two defeats.

Coach Mark Aston hopes Hull FC coach Richard Agar will agree to Burnett linking back up with the Eagles under a dual-registration deal.

The 21-year-old played one game for the Eagles in March but was then recalled as the Super League club was hit by an injury crisis.

Aston said: "I'm talking to Richard Agar and Mike could be back this week. Bringing Mike back would help freshen us up a bit.

"He only had one game with us but the lad has played a lot of Super League rugby and having him in the squad increases the options."

Burnett played 17 games for Hull last season. After his recall to the KC Stadium he was back in the first team but with the return of their big name Australian signings, his opportunities have been limited.

Adding Burnett to the squad would boost the Eagles who are reeling from going out of the Northern Rail Cup - a competition they had targeted - at Batley at the weekend and they need a confidence-boosting result when they travel to Whitehaven on Sunday.

The Eagles are fifth in the Championship but have played more games than their rivals and have a number of away games coming up as pressure mounts to hold on to a play-off place.

Aston said: "We now have to focus on a play-off place and finishing as high as possible in the league.

"I'll take stock and have a look at the squad this week and pick a team of people who are ready to play.

"If we can get Mike Burnett back from Hull FC this week he could play at Whitehaven."

Meanwhile, Craig Cook's good form in May has won him the Championship Player of the Month award from Rugby League World magazine.

The hooker scored seven tries in five games in May and has has accrued 17 in all this season

The award for Craig is nothing less than he deserves................................

Not only that he is, along with many others "Mr Nice Guy" and is so much like Rocky in the way he plays.

WELL DONE CRAIG, even though one person at the club, put down on the team sheet "Mick" Cook.
