York City Council's executive has selected Huntington Stadium at Monks Cross as the base for the 6,000 all-seat stadium.

Good news.

Hopefully the new stadium will help York become a solid Championship club by 2014.

A reasonable size too for a club our size (unlike Donny at the Keepmoat).

If theres provisions for future expansion and surrounding transport links are improved, then I think York are finally on to a winner!

Great news,its just as important for Championship clubs to have good,modern stadia,as it is for Super League clubs.Hope it all works out,York really should be a solid Championship side.

Ability for expansion to 12,000 spectators under cover, with its 6,000 seats already planned, would help qualify them for Super League ten years from now.

I would like to see them in the main Championship division at least, because the town adds a bit of very old preindustrial history to the game. Its the kind of thing so many of the French clubs, like Carcassonne and Avignon, have to offer visitors. Maybe lots more French visitors would come over for their club's match at York, than come for their club's other northern England games.

Unfortunately the current 2-up-2-down promotion and relegation massively reduce the chance of York becoming an established Championship club. Bring in Championship franchising (with more teams than now) and they will have a chance to achieve their potential

That is true, but the French fans may not know that. It needs to be publicised by the French clubs and by the tourist agencies in France.
