Matt Orford wants to go back to Australia. Parramatta is interested.

World Champions in what sense?

They have been World Champions in reality every time they have won the NRL Premiership.

If you mean the mickey mouse game played in Feb/March each year in England against a team with 1/2 a dozen games under their belt under local refs and local conditions at home against an Oz team in pre season straight off a plane then it would be 1 with 3 runners up.

The last time there was a fair indication of Club sides was back in the SL war days.

I guess you don't want to talk about those results against the weaker side of the Australian SL war.

What about 1994?

Also your first point is parochial male genitals.

Wigan won fair and square and caught Brisbane out ( it was a long time ago Mate)

One of 3 games from around 20 played in the Southern Hemisphere.

The top SL side would not beat the top NRL side with all things being equal.

NRL cast offs are stars in those SL sides.

Look at Leeds, who would make a top NRL club from Leeds? who would even make an NRL Club?

Burgess and Ellis are going ok and their Clubs this year are performing well but they are traditionally Clubs that do not make the finals

thoughtful response.

Send Leeds down to Brisbane in May to play St George and see how they go.

At least they will have played some competitive games before the game.

I recall the Storm beating Leeds last year in a crappy game.

The year before Manly tore Leeds a new bum in around 8 minutes before easing off.

Year before that Leeds beat the Storm in a Storm with plenty of dubious tactics including some Storm players being carried off and a ref that was one eyed.

OK, I couldn't bothered, but...

Why is it, whenever the Aussies get beaten, it is because of refs, home advantage etc. etc. but whenever they win it is because of superior skill?

Just take your beating and accept that others can be better than you.

Such as Bradford, who have been World Champions three times.

The Manly team had more headhunters in it than a village in the Amazon.

Another " all Aussies are supermen" sycophant then.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

Time will tell.

Its only the absolute mediocrity below them that has Bradford in 10th spot.

Oi! I resent that remark. "Absolute mediocrity" indeed! We've honed our mediocrity to "perfect". With the aid of an Aussie Director of Rugby and an Aussie coach, as well! :P

No they haven't. They have been the best in the Southern Hemisphere every time they won the NRL. Get over it.

If you mean the mickey mouse game played in Feb/March each year in England against a team with 1/2 a dozen games under their belt under local refs and local conditions at home against an Oz team in pre season straight off a plane then it would be 1 with 3 runners up.

Australian team straight off the plane? You mean they don't come a 2 weeks before the game and play a warm up game against a SL side before it? Oh they do? Not straight off the plane then, is it?

And your local ref comment is laughable. This year's ref was English. The 3 years before that were Australian.

The last time there was a fair indication of Club sides was back in the SL war days.

I guess you don't want to talk about those results against the weaker side of the Australian SL war.

So the last time it was fair was the time you pick in history that you conveniently won most of the time? Yes, that's a really fair indication!

Super League club after Super League club have stated they would love to play the NRL champions in Australia. It's just that the NRL clubs are so bottleless they'd hate to risk humiliation on their home turf. Every year the champs of SL say they'll go over there, and every year nothing happens.

Another "Australia are amazing, England are useless" boring rant.

Peacock would walk into an NRL side. Burrow and McGuire would get in. Senior would have in his day. Ellis has already made it in the NRL from Leeds. I reckon Sinfield would get in also. There are some absolutely garbage players in the NRL. They aren't all amazing.

Plenty of players that are "amazing" in the NRL end up coming here and being terrible.

thoughtful response.

Why send Leeds (who are 5th) to play St George (who are 1st)? A bit favourable conditions again from the person who wants "all things fair". How about we send Wigan?

I recall the Storm beating Leeds last year in a crappy game.

Is this the same side that cheated to win the NRL?

The year before Manly tore Leeds a new bum in around 8 minutes before easing off.

And they deserved to win. Leeds were terrible.

Year before that Leeds beat the Storm in a Storm with plenty of dubious tactics including some Storm players being carried off and a ref that was one eyed.

The ref was Australian. And again, the same Melbourne side that won the NRL by cheating.

I declare you a typical whinging Aussie. We've got enough of them on these forums, thanks. You bring nothing new.

Trent Barrett has just confirmed that he is retiring at the end of this season.

This eliminates one option that Parramatta had. It will increase the interest from Parrramata in Matt Orford.

Incidentally, I do not want Bradford to remain weak. As I have written in another thread, it is important to have more competitive clubs with a shot at winning the two competitions. An all-conquering Wigan juggernaut is not in the interests of Super League and hence not in the interests of rugby league in the northern hemisphere.

However the future at Bradford is looking grim on the player front. At least they will have a competent coach next year, which should help their on field performances considerably. But they will still have to strengthen their player roster, and get the ball moving on a new ground.

Hang on a minute,Burgess and Ellis are regarded as the best second rowers here in Australia,by no other than Gould and Fittler so they are going better than OK.Flanagan at the Tigers is doing OK ,gets a run most weeks and is in the squad.Wests Tigers won the GF just a few years ago and "traditionally"Souths have won more championships than all the other teams in Sydney.

You metion players who would make it here in OZ from the UK Superleague, well Skandalis is getting a run at Wests, unheralded Flanagan at Wests,Crossman and Fitzhennry who were released by HKR are getting games at Souths and the Tigers.Last season at the Roosters Tansey went well at a very average Roosters team.

I remember Jason Smith coming back from Hull FC and despite his age and chain smoking managed two seasons in the NRL at the Raiders and Cowboys.

Even Langer came back fron Warrington to play SOO,there are some very average players in the NRL just as there is in Super League.

I can speak Esperanto like a native.

This story now really has some legs.

With Kimmorley likely to follow Barrett into retirement, it seems that Canberra are now also interested in Matt Orford.

The other news is that Orford is in dispute with Bradford!

So on the one hand we have idle newspaper speculation in Aus, and on the other we have a direct quote from the chairman of the club Ox is contracted to. Just done a bit of digging, and I've found this quote from the man himself.

Orford going nowhere

Couple that with the fact he tried to play on, and did play in the CC game against Wire, with three muscle tears in his shoulder and a dislocation, and it looks to me that he has a lot of pride in playing for the Bulls.

That newspaper report is seven weeks old!

I am quoting from today's papers in Australia.

Why doesn't some English journalist --- especially from the T & A -- get off his bum and call Orford now?

That article is nearly 2 months old.

The fact he's back in Manly recoiving from his injury says it all.

Best start seeing what NSW Cup half-backs are available for next season. :P

That article has nothing from the Raiders saying they're interested in Orford. Also, fans are much more interested in Kimmorley than Orford.

This article states the Raiders' position quite clearly.

So unless there is a weekly update from the T&A you're not happy.

Fortunately, Donaldson, Whitehead, Crossley, Addy, Southernwood, Olbison, Crookers, Wardle, Finnegan and Halley and Kopczak suggest otherwise.

However the future at Bradford is looking grim on the player front.

Because it's already been done you big dope. Words from the horses mouth

"I'm here for the long haul"

Can you find anything that suggests he isn't apart from the headlines in the Sydney media which is notorious for dog#######ki and sensationalism?

Any word from Orford himself?
