McNamara is having a laugh Westerman and Sykes have done nothing this season to warrant selection. Id also pick Brough before Brown or McGuire. Leon Pryce should be one of the first names in the squad as should Joel Tomkins. Id also include all the NRL based players for the 4 nations even Widdop and Flanagan. McNamara did nothing at Bradford and shouldnt have even got the job. Maybe it should have gone to Karl Harrison instead.

On the Manu issue, I think as someone said, it's the rules that need changing, not the selection as the rules stand.

Yes it happens loads in other sports, but this isn't other sports, this is rugby league, and rugby league is ahead of the times, innovative and makes it's own decisions.

Therefore, it should do this on this matter too, in my opinion.

However, as long as the rules are as they are, if we (England) don't follow them accordingly, the Kiwis and Aussies and every other nation will, and we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Ah, so two wrongs DO make a right. Let'sall kick up a fuss if the Aussies or Kiwis do it but England are simply "playing by the rules as they currently stand" Which by the way is wrong if Manu did play at the 2009 PC.

Manu was definitely listed in the Tonga squad before the tournament, I've seen it on several websites (including the NRL one) but I can't yet find any actual team lists from the games themselves. So I'm not sure if he did play or not. If he did then he's ineligible for anyone else until 2012.

Firstly, if it's in the rules, it's not wrong, and maybe I wasn't clear, that's the issue I have a grievance with, not the fact any nation is doing what they are well within their rights to do.

Until RL is innovative, and changes these International selection regulations, these selections are not WRONG, when any nation does it.

If it is wrong in Manu's case, then surely England will be informed, and Manu replaced. You can't break the rules - as Samoa found in the World Cup. Unfortunately, the rules are already 'not very good'. (insert more appropriate language here)

you misunderstand/i didntmake it clear..

its not playing for one then the other iunderstand that dont like it but understand it..

its about when you can change.. there was some rule about world cup cycles.. you couldnt change within a world cup cycle.. as such qualification re started at the final whistle of the last world cup, after that you played for one you couldn play for another until the final whistle of the 2013 world cup final.. stupidy you could play in that world cup final for one team then turn out for another the next day..
as such playing in 2009 would rule him out..

(i have no issue with people qualifying to play, justnot when they have played for anyone else ever IMO)
Apologies, I did understand your point, but counted 2009 as before the 2008 World Cup, which it clearly wasn't!!!! blush.gif

Ok then, not RLIF lawfully wrong but certainly morally wrong. I thought we were above this sort of ######. Manu has played for Tonga. End of story for me. He could live here for the rest of his life but it still wouldn't make him English. It's not just McNamara who's immoral here. Manu can't have much respect for his background unless of course there's a WC on the horizon.

1000000000000000000000% agree.

No respect for his family, his country or anything else to do with Tonga.

If he won't be there then why bother winding people up by picking him now?

He's already been claimed by Tonga.

I agree.

I actually find the whole nation-swapping thing quite offensive. Willie Manu isn't English and he never will be, he's got no business pretending to represent me, my family and my friends. He is solely interested in playing test RL, if he was good enough to be doing it for Australia then he'd never have turned out for Tonga, and he'd certainly never have put his hand up for us.

I also have a nagging fear that McNamara has got Chris Heighington pencilled in for the Four Nations as well.

Even if he didn't 'spud it would still be morally wrong to select him. We may as well tell Tonga to not bother playing internationally any more as any players they pick who've ever played professionally in England or Australia for more than three years will more than likely defect given half a hope of a cap.

there is no claiming if a player can wander between national teams.
