This is a big problem with the RLFF. We spend too much time trying to find the negatives even when, as in this case, something positive has happened. It doesn't matter whether Warrington has a population of 90k or 9 million, an increase in support (and a profit) is welcome just as is Warrington's upward surge in form over the last two seasons.

First point, spot on.

Increase & a profit, second in the league, still in the cup.

How many of the other 13 SL teams would be happy with that???

I guess all of them

I also think the comments on here really do prove RL will never ever be a big sport.

some on here are just like the newspapers, negative, negative and love the BAD things in OUR beloved Sport giving them a chance to gloat.

I have interests in other sports, BUT my love is RL and we need to embrace as one.

RL needs to be gung ho

Spirit of the Squirrel
The Way of the Beaver
The Gift of the Goose

The first secret, the Spirit of the Squirrel, emphasizes the need for people to perform worthwhile work.

The second secret, the Way of the Beaver, explains why people should control the process of achieving their goals.

The third and final secret, the Gift of the Goose, which adds enthusiasm to the first two secrets.

wouldn't hurt any of us.

Wigan is more populated than Warrington, it is in Greater Manchester - a conurbation of millions of people, Wigan's stadium is much bigger than Warrington's, oh and not forgetting the Warriors are the most successful rugby club in the world. Both clubs are doing fine.

all the more reason that the attempt to brag about warrington is pointless.

nothing to brag about

Souths would survive but would not be as bigger club without a celebrity owner and worldwide icon.

Russell Crowe has been good for attracting the likes of Burgess and some sponsorship deals, but he no longer tips in his own money, and is no longer really required for securing major sponsors or gun players. The club makes a profit primarily on the back of our strong membership base and good policies, which Crowe pushed, but is no longer required to pilot.

Warrington are doing reasonably well with what they have, but like just about every other club they are afraid of plunging into the abyss. So marketing is a bit of an afterthought because of the outlay required. It's seen as a gamble rather than a sound investment. A shame really. Having a rich backer whom you know is in for the long haul, rather than just saying they are, is one way of getting past those fears. The other route would see a central fund for all clubs, spent by the RFL, catering to marketing and other areas such as club investments or development funds. But then, that would require the RFL to be forward thinking as well. They have improved greatly in recent years, but matters needs to be further developed.

If the RFL or NRL were forward-thinking they would look to doing all of their marketing, design and video production in-house, enabling a much greater output for a similar cost factor to what is currently being spent.

How can a positive be turned into a negative.

Only in Rugby League.

Glad Wigan and Widnes fans can offer congratulations, Thanks and well done guys.

I agree - an RL club making an operating profit is good news as it is unfortunately rare. Can't understand why it should be turned into a negative or trolling session.

Notwithstanding the rivalry between our clubs, I have a lot of respect for the Warrington club and their management who have clearly made such strides on and off the field from where they were 10 - 15 years ago. SL would be better if it had more success stories like Warrington.
