RP London Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 think mr potter has a job on is hands finding us 2 decent centres now, i dont think we will start to see the fruits of his labour until 2012 to be honest no academy?
Mumby Magic Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 We have Wardle and hopefully Menzies who I feel should slot into the centres next season to strengthen our backline if we resign him. Like poor jokes? Thejoketeller@mullymessiah
thepimp007 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 i just feel we need the experience if we are to start moving forward again, but the question is who is available who would fit into budget
boxhead Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 We have Wardle and hopefully Menzies who I feel should slot into the centres next season to strengthen our backline if we resign him. Surely Beaver is getting past his prime and playing him in the Centres is asking a bit much?
bradfittler Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Parramatta Man Eric Grothe is supposed to be talking to the Bulls. He has had a few public run in's with Daniel Anderson. Would be a good signing for you guys.
thepimp007 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 i michael jennings and steve matai are off contract at the end of this year very long shot, for me tho jennings is one of the most exciting centres in the world but affording someone like him could be nigh on impossible
bradfittler Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Jennings has signed a 5yr deal with Penrith and Matai is wanting to stay an manly so the the warriers have pulled there offer of a 3 yr deal. He will stay at Manly.
Mumby Magic Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Surely Beaver is getting past his prime and playing him in the Centres is asking a bit much? I'd agree with you if he wasn't such a freak of nature! Some of his best performances have come in the centres or playing there later in the game. Ask Sheriffe who played outside him at Catalans and helped himself to a hattrick. Yes I said Sheriffe!!!! Like poor jokes? Thejoketeller@mullymessiah

PC Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 no academy? Joe Wardle and Jason Crookes are both centres, both academy products, and both have played for the first team this season.
bendyas Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Parramatta Man Eric Grothe is supposed to be talking to the Bulls. He has had a few public run in's with Daniel Anderson. Would be a good signing for you guys. He'd be a terrible signing. Especially as a centre. i michael jennings and steve matai are off contract at the end of this year very long shot, for me tho jennings is one of the most exciting centres in the world but affording someone like him could be nigh on impossible Matai has no shoulders and there's more chance of me playing for Bradofrd next year than Jennings. Joe Wardle and Jason Crookes are both centres, both academy products, and both have played for the first team this season. Let's hope they play next year too.
Errol Stock Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 We once had a young kid who couldn't get a game because the (then) coach wouldn't pick him. Then Brian Smith arrived and he got a game - along with some signings - who at the time were not keen on coming, Sonny Nickle, Bernard Dwyer and Paul Laughlin. The kid turned out to be Robbie Paul. Dwyer & Loughlin ended up as loyal players and enjoyed their time and the "buzz" began. When we had the buzz - we tempted players from all over the place (not all came I know that). My theory is that this "buzz" thing (and the wages) is what attracts players to a club when they have a choice of clubs to play for or not sure about their future. Its the "buzz" thing that disappeared about the same time as the Harris debacle reached its conclusion. I remember Sam Burgess's first season in the first team - so happy to break in - always a smile on his face. But in season 2 - that smile had gone and he left. I wondered why he looked so down (yes I know about his dad)... Or I am just jumping to conclusions... So now we have a flat atmosphere and a depressing cloud over the club - I wonder what's said at player level.. "Don't go there - its a dump" ?? "Avoid the Bulls - the pay is low"?? "That club is going nowhere - give it a miss"?? Nero is nowhere near an in demand player and he has chosen to leave anyway. I don't expect to see Orford again for the same reason. Hope I am wrong.
RP London Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Joe Wardle and Jason Crookes are both centres, both academy products, and both have played for the first team this season. there you go then.. job done and players taht might want to play too.
indomitable Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 The Guardian are indicating that Nero is going to Salford, and the Bulls state that Orford will be back at the club ready for next season, and his operation is healing successfully. Although Nero never played with the Bulls anywhere near his Giants form, he is as good as the majority of SL centres. Wardle looked good on his debut but sadly been injured since, and I really don't think Crookes is going to make it. I would dearly love to be wrong on this. Defensivel,y Platt has been good, but his passing leaves a lot to be desired, once again we look like struggling with our backs next season.
Bulliac Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Surely Beaver is getting past his prime and playing him in the Centres is asking a bit much? Beaver hasn't walked on as a centre but has played long sections of games there, and imo has been our most impressive player in that position. With quite a few second rows including James Donaldson and Elliott Whitehead certain to get picked next year, and hopefully fewer injuries to the props meaning the back rowers don't have to move up to cover, I don't see why he shouldn't play at centre. Except there hasn't been any announcement of him being re-signed yet, of course............... There are far too many ins and outs still to be finalised/announced though, so it's still all up in the air to be honest. No team is an island......................................... http://www.flickr.com/photos/31337109@N03/
PC Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Let's hope they play next year too. Indeed, but I can't see having two young, inexperienced centres along with Platt who is also inexperienced at centre, being a recipe for success. We have re-signed Sykes, but he's not exactly the player I'd like Wardle and Crookes to learn from.
thepimp007 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 With quite a few second rows including James Donaldson and Elliott Whitehead certain to get picked next year, going off subject a tad keep an eye out for a young man by the name of john bateman coming through, i know steve mac was hoping for a future back row of whitehead, donaldson and bateman, the kid is a special talent glad he chose to sign for us whilst he had many other options
Bulligerent Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 going off subject a tad keep an eye out for a young man by the name of john bateman coming through, i know steve mac was hoping for a future back row of whitehead, donaldson and bateman, the kid is a special talent glad he chose to sign for us whilst he had many other options Totally agree, a very significant signing for the future and scored on his club debut. All we need now is a few of the finished product either coming through or being brought/'bought' into the first team because i worry that by the time some of these lads (like Bateman) are ready they won't have a Super League team at Bradford to break into and all the hard work done on improving our youth structures will have been a waste.
Konkrete Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Nero has been a massive disappointment for me. When he signed from the Giants I couldn't stop smiling for a week. He's been a shadow of that player. I expect him to kick-on when he goes. Forever in our shadow, forever on your mind.
