Leeds to outnumber saints fans two to one.

Recommended Posts

Saints get about 11k average attendance, Leeds get about 15k average attendance. I'm not going to get into the relative size of geographical areas and fan bases. But based on average attendance which at leeds is limited by ground regulations more than people through the door you would expect more Leeds than Saints.

I think when Leeds were not limited at the ground they got 17k regular. So you would expect about 17 Leeds fans for every 11 Saints which is roughly 60/40 share.

You balance it out with it being a 20 minute drive from my house in Leeds to Huddersfield compared to an hour dependant upon traffic for Saints then yep I would reckon the balance is about right.

Had the game been played at Wigan I would expect a reversal of the balance with Saints outselling Leeds.

As even if you do not drive bus and train are very easy from Saints to Wigan, just as it is from Leeds to Huddersfield.

Not sure why Wigan could not be used to be honest, it would make a nice change from huddersfield.

Just like Warrington was last year.

As for Warrington taking more fans to cup rounds, just because Leeds are taking more than Saints, allegedly that does not nessasarily equate to Warrington having more boots on the ground than Saints come the weekend.

But this is one of those that will be claimed and counter claimed as I doubt anyone will have the actual figures to hand, especially when people will probably still turn up and pay on the day.

I still have no idea if I'm going to be sat with St Helens or Leeds supporters :O

My friend Chris wanted four tickets for the lads all together and when he rung Headingley the lady on the phone said that they only had single seats left when he rang yesterday.

Cue a mad panic to ring the RFL who said the same (they could allocate four together in the Pink Link St Helens end) thing.

Then the strange part which I can't get my head around, this morning he rang again and the lady at Headingley said that the RFL had released a further 800 tickets for the Panasonic upper tier behind the sticks and when he asked why these hadn't been on sale earlier, the reply was the RFL didn't want an empty stand at the instruction of the BBC.

Now I'm sorry but surely it's in everyones best interests to provide the demand for tickets rather than keeping stands and sections closed.

Anyhow were all happy and have tickets now and shall be leaving Bradford on the 09:45 train to Huddersfield.

If anyone want's to meet up PM me and I'll give you my number.

COME ON YOU SAINTS

Is one stand completely closed or are they all open?

Persoanlly I think we are going to get turned over as we have 4 x starting hit up forwards out injured and I think this will hinder us greatly as the game goes on.

Saints by 16.

All four are open with 16,000 tickets sold so far so it will be pay on the door, which should see the crowd improve to 18,000/19,000.

Edited my post for accuracy, the chirpy bit about Warrington taking more at the end, was for a warrington fan on another site. Same debate though why are Leeds out selling Saints although 2 -1 was debated by a Leeds fan to say that it' not that straight forward as it's calculated not y seats but by sections sold out which are different at the 2 ends in size. But also just comparing fully sold section, ie Saints have sold out 7 of 15, does not say anything about how many seats are in each section or how close to sold out the other 8 sections are.

My post is more that given relative support base you would imagine Leeds would normally bring 17 fans for every 11 Saints fans, based on home attendances when Leeds where not limited by ground safety regs. average 17k v 11k.

Many Saints fans are glory hunters and will gladly have a day out of Merseyside at Wembley but only their true fans will go to the cup matches before the final, unlike Wire fans.

You mean like the 20,000+ wire fans who wen't to Wembley last year but have been nowhere near the HJ this season !!!

It amazes me where you pull your figures from!! B) Over the Super League era the Saints' fans have shelled-out more money than Warrington's fans for big matches. Without being disrespectful to Warrington, you are still new kids on the block in terms of success.

One Final can't be classed as Success, but thanks for the nice comment.

Isn't Leeds ten times the size of St Helens?

Anything less than ten times the amount of Leeds fans is a poor showing from them.

Just because leeds is ten times bigger doesn't make them all rugby fans.there is a football team hear aswell.

I didn't want to get into comparing town sizes. I was just saying that given the relative average crowd sizes and relative distances. I'm not surprised Leeds out number us. If it was at Wigan I think the balance would be in Saints favour but not by as much.

Whilst Wendall's post was a load of ######, the one you quoted specifically referred to games prior to the cup final, making your post a bit ###### too...

But Mick, you had a rant here telling us that they had closed one and it was a farce? Remember?

On the SL website the 4th stand is still closed off.

It is! That's why I asked because when I bought tickets you couldn't buy any in that stand. It didn't even say they were sold out unlike the other areas.

Whats going on?

It's been reported on the rhinos website that on current ticket sales leeds will outnumber their counterparts two to one. If this is true it's a sad day for rugby league. What would stop a true fan travelling less than an hour down the motorway for the biggest game of the season on a saturday afternoon ? This game promises to be a cracker and if it's played out in front of a half empty saints end it will do the image of our game no good whatsoever.

fact is saints don't have half as many glory hunters as the whino's,

more true fans yes but glory hunters no!!

"Why is Napoleon crying ?" said one sailor to the other, "poor ###### thinks he's being exiled to st helens" came the reply.

Ha ha, small club man with small club syndrome. You'd be lucky to raise enough fans for a party. 3 in a row..............jealous?
