Think your all missing the point on Carney.

The way I read it was that in his opinion, the 14 best clubs were definately not already in Superleague.

He's made the point many times that he thought the decision to allow Crusaders in and then to relocate after 12 months was wrong.

Correct.....Carney was implying that there are teams outside SL who have been getting their clubs in order by sorting the stadiums and youth development etc ....... these clubs should be given a chance.
As for Leigh had blown their chance.....complete rubbish. Leigh only had 1 season in SL (unlike Widnes and Fax), when we earned promotion we were in a no win situation as there were no players available and was always destined to go straight back down.If we had been allowed 3 years guaranteed SL it would have been a different case and we would be a lot stronger in the long run........ there are a few SL clubs in there who haven't improved at all....Salford,Cas,Quins to name a few.

Widnes are making a good job of not being one of the best 6 clubs in the championship you clown.

What an insightful post.

1) I suggest you look up the difference between a club and a team.

2) I don't know how you've missed this but I suggest you find out about licensing and how it replaced traditional promotion and relegation.

3) Learn some manners.

Widnes had the same stadium last time they were in the SL and Fax have a shiny new stand from the last time they were in the SL. huh.gif

'New stadia,' doesn't have to mean new stadia since they were last in the league.

As someone who was actually born in God's own county (That's Cheshire before anyone asks), can I remind everyone that Widnes and Warrington are in Lancashire. They are NOT in Cheshire.

From 1974-1997 Warrington was put under the control of Cheshire County Council. This was purely for administrative purposes. North of the Manchester Ship Canal is Lancashire, south is Cheshire. That has never changed.

And anyway, what's wrong with coming from Lancashire? smile.gif

I totally disagree with Carney's view about licensing on Wed. He siad that they should forget about defo promoting one club and just make sure the best 14 teams are there

This is a totally flawed argument because the teams in the Co-Op championship don't get the opportunity to get big crowds week in week out for at least 3-years, so cannot be equally compared to SL clubs. Also do we really want to restrict the number of towns to 14 who can ever have aspirations?

Also someone needs to explain the "chicken and egg" situation to everyone on sky and at the RFL.

People will not watch RL in numbers much great than 1-2k if there is no definite route to promotion on-the-pitch

Also investors will not come in unless there is a guaranteed route. What happens if two clubs were meeting the criteria at the moment? In reality the RFL shoudl put both up BUT they will not. Therefore this puts off fans and investors

The RFL has just layed out some criteria, so why not modify it to say that the highest placed club who wins the most things AND meets the other criteria then defo goes up

agreed

just because somebody can play the game doesnt mean they have a clue whats good for the sport as a whole

widnes in SL will get bigger crowds than at least 2 current heartland teams

plus if clubs from outside SL are excluded then there is no reason for these clubs to improve, nor for clubs like cas or wakey to improve either

wakey being relegated for widnes will be a very good thing for the game
