According to the club's website, the club are seeking the assistance of the RFL in fighting off yet another winding up order from HMRC to be heard on Sept 8.

Let's hope there's somebody to call on to help pay this one off!!

Said chairman Chris Hamilton: “We have been aware for some time, and so have the RFL, that this was on the horizon, but we are working closely together to deal with it.”
BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD KEEP EVERYONE IN THE DARK AGAIN ............ AS I HAVE NOT DECIDED YET AS TO THE IDENTITY OF THE 4 PLAYERS THAT WILL BE GOING THIS SEASON .... laugh.gif

There's no need for this comment, last thing we need at this stage of the season is doom, gloom and let's have ago at Chris again (and no I am not one of his fans)

completley agree Higgy but people with sunny dispositions are few and far between. Like chris said earlier this season half a season doesnt wipe out 13 years of loses and debt, so it was only a matter of time before there was this type of announcement but of all the winding up orders oldham have had this one frightens me the least as we now have decent foundations to improve our financial future personally i think it will take more than a full season at whitebank to be debt free but not much longer

Well said.

I think we'll be fine, we've been through worse problems than this. Chris said earlier in the season that we still had remaining debts from the previous 13 seasons without a ground. We should beat this off comfortably.

I think a full year in the championship would wipe our debts out due to the increase in away fans .

Playing games at S/park must have put us in a minus figure.
With Whitebank our home profitability will soon return.
CH and SW and the team will always dig deep as ever biggrin.gif

Are you sure about that Rob? How much is this petition for and how many more are there on the way in respect of the 'historical debt'? Clearly the club haven't been able to convince the HMRC that profitability will return soon. Has Whitebank given us a 'solid foundation' to now break even or are we just spending more money we don't have again?

I agree that the timing of this couldn't be worse but most people are concerned that there is no wealthy benefactor like BQ or personal loans left to save the club again!!!

Everyone involved with the Roughyeds know we have had this debt and have known it would take a while to reduce or even eradicate, as stated on the website and by others playing home games out of town for a number of years hasn't helped, this year at Whitebamk we have shown what can be done when we all pull together and support our team.

Now is the time for all those that want the Roughyeds to succeed and progress to look at how thyey can help whether it be by supporting club events or joining the supporters organisation every little thing we do to help raise funds and support both teams, coaches and the club.

The last thing we need is to be casting aspertions about people and what should/should not have been done in the past, lets start looking to the future and building on the success we have had thus far this season and get behind the club in the play offs.

The next event at the club is the Supporters Association meeting tomorrow 26/8 ALL Welcome, this will be followed by the Supporters Association Quiz Night in the club on Tuesday 19 October 2010, 8pm start cpst £10 per team of 4, why not come along and enjoy a good evening out with friends.

For more information about the supporters association contact Paul Whalley on 07796631192 or email PW4856@aol.com.

HMRC must be one of the most incompetant organisations around.
Let's see, wind ORLFC up and what do you end up with...The assets, which are zero. We don't have a ground, maybe a couple of hundred quid for the shirts?

Keep ORLFC as an ongoing concern and HMRC have a chance of getting their money back with income from the new ground coming in. Income streams include gate money, parking, ground advertising, refreshments etc. etc..all of which we haven't been getting for the last 13 years.

Sometimes you can't make it up.

Yet again CH is making light of the impending winding up of the orlfc(1997) club.
What can the RFL or anydody else do regarding the mismanagement of the club over many years?
Taxes due to HMRC need to be paid on time all of the time.
What sort of excuse is it that the club has made losses over the last 13 years got to do with not paying tax due to HMRC.
They are only doing what many companies that are owed money would do in the same situation.
Good grief our record with getting in to this situation is laughable how many more times?
The organisation always pays its bills on time is what CH has said, pull the other one !!!!
Put up some of your own money CH because i have supported oldham since 1986 and the amount of money i have put into the club is considerable.
The timing of this bombshell is going to have a dramatic effect on the club but it is one that CH has known about for some time but has chose to keep close to his chest because he requires the money to keep rolling in to prop up the bank account so that the club can pay certain people rather than the debt that has to be paid, namely HMRC.

CH's words from the Roughyeds' official website which, for me, sums it up.

The club is 80 minutes away from appearing in a Grand Final with promotion as the ultimate prize. Yes, it’s tough going on the financial front, but isn’t that true of any company — sporting or otherwise — in this day and age?

Roughyeds are no different to other clubs in that regard. Well, yes, they are different to many —- they have always paid their debts and have never once been subjected to insolvency penalties. Now isn’t that something else over which the club can “blow its own trumpet”.

With the above in mind why are some people trying their best to be so despondent.

There are a lot of clubs in RL, RU and Football that would be more than happy to be in our situation.

My point is that if HMRC winds the club up on September 8th, then the club ceases to be at that date.
No more games.
So, the money ORLFC would earn from the 12th and susequent play off games would not come into the club.

Yes, HMRC need to collect their money, but winding the club up is NOT the way to do it.

(It would be interesing to see the state of the accounts of ORLFC though)
