Times are hard and people are nervous...read some of the latics stuff re fan numbers in slow decline...and a whole raft of people are going to have to make some hard choices,(including myself).
I would love to hear how Rugby Oldham are viewing the current scenario and if they have been privy to a more "practical/factual resume" of the scale of the "problem" re HMRC and Ground Ownership.
Stevene made a fair point well, he states he has accountancy skills and if an accountant cannot balance the books then perhaps it just cannot be done! After 13 years of struggling what other conclusion can be reached?

Just like to say well done to you both for having a good discussion about this situation and no sla**ing people of keep it going very intresting.
to you stevene, would it be better for us to go up this season, with us not having much money to develope whitebank, we all know that its not up to championship standard , also we need to go up to get the bigger teams down there to gain more revenew, i feel that we are in a catch 22 situation.

Catch 22 sums it up I think - what we all want to avoid is being forced to play at Spotland when we get promoted, which would be a disaster. That said, we need to be playing in the championship against the likes of Leigh/Widnes in order to generate more revenue. Whitebank is 2000 short on capacity plus a number of additional facilities need to be added in order to meet the minimum standards. All this, play-offs and just over 50 days to pay the latest HMRC winding up order.....phew!!

thanks but I don't know whether the books balance, no one can unless you can see them. my views, from the outside looking in, is firstly that I can't see how they can without continued investment (but I am only speculating). Secondly what has been said about "old debts" and how relevant these are to winding up petition just seems to be a financial smokescreen (again speculation but knowing how HMRC work I am reasonably confident in that one).

I understand the point made by diehard about not getting promoted and building slowly but will that not further turn away potential new fans? Do we run the risk of crowds falling further at Whitebank as some may ask "whats the point?" Whilst some my view these people as not "true fans" well maybe, maybe not but attracting more fans has to be a commercial goal of the club.

I think fans understand that we need to go up, but feel we cant because of our prediciment, i dont know how the RFL work, but could we go on to win the grand final, but take a financal reward instead to build on our ground for next season?

C22, you must be joking, Hornets aren't even allowed to train on the hollowed turf or Keith Hill has another of his over-the-top strops. He thinks it's only the Dale that are entitled to play there? God knows what would happen if it ever became a community stadium?

Sometimes, you can complicate things by over-analysing,second/third guessing.Let`s forget for now what we don`t know (like,CH`s accounting spin,HMRC`s position,RL`s policy/criteria,and such like).Let`s focus on what we DO know:
*brilliant team spirit-wanting to play for Oldham and earning everyone`s respect for it
*great job from coaching and support staff
*fabulous atmoshere at the game
*winning 2 games (please, not to go to three!!) will put us in a position that few expected (me included) to be in at the start of the season. This gives us options-go up or not go up.
Am really looking forward to the match.York are no mugs, for sure, but let`s go for it and leave for, now at least , the `imponderables` to one side

In reply to Eclectic Sheep you might like to know that Hornets RL are on course to break even so it is possible to operate without incurring massive debts.
On the subject of Rugby Oldham we are still waiting for a meeting with Chris Hamilton but I expect all will become clearer once the current season is over. Rest assured we are willing to help.
As regards the bigger picture Ralph Rimmer will take up post at the RFL on October 11th with a brief to examine the operation of Championship rugby. His report is expected to impose minimum standards across several areas of operation (many of which I would expect Oldham should meet) and to introduce a licencing system, something that will be of particular interest to Bramley Buffaloes who are desperate to return to Championship rugby.

I'm sure you will be, with the home crowds your getting and the rent you pay (I'm assuming it's low) then I don't think it'll be long before your in the black. I just hope that if you get promoted that we can still play the Law cup.

Good luck in the grand final I'll be there, unfortunatly for me as a spectator and not a fan mellow.gif

Great news for your club. If you do win promotion which is long overdue I hope the RFL will assist with the ground by giving dispensation if necessary as long as a plan is in place to make any improvements required, after all they allowed a Welsh club to play their home games at a location that wasn't listed on their franchise so i'm sure where there is a will there is a way.
