Remarkable piece of RL history, the 1935/36 Championship winning medal awarded to Hull FC captain Joe Oliver, the man about whom the song "Old Faithful" was first sung by Hull fans.
I do hope my club make an effort to buy this, at least it's a bit older than some of our recent signings...

On 13/2/2013, Hull City's owners the Allams, released a statement in their position as the owners of the KC Stadium Management Committee. One line in this statement read as follows....
"The SMC's principal responsibility is to remain neutral"

Good question, Roy. I don't know the answer, but I know Joe died the same year Nobby made his debut.
The medal's already at £475 with 6 days still to go. If anybody wants it's going to cost 'em.

As I've posted elsewhere, with the Ebay name "Goldenmax", I have my suspicions it may be Max Gold but I'm not sure.

My word, it's up to £670 already!
The current high bidder has stated that if he wins it, and he has his limits, he will be donating it to the club. What a marvellous gesture.
The club have said they've not been bidding on it.

Finished at £1,120
I went on it to see the current price and by fluke it only had 50 secs left on it, I was tempted to make a last second bid on it but my mother said she would kill me if I spend that much on a medal.

Must remind you to buy me a beer next time I see you Gareth.
Did that Hull fan off RLFans get it?, he was going to donate it to the club if he won.

Not sure, the bidders identities are protected and no one has replied to the post on RLfans since I posted the final price.

Yep, the link to the story in Roy's post confirms it was previously owned by a Hull KR director. I still think the club themselves should have bought it though rather than relying on the benevolence of a supporter..

Couldn't agree more - It just show's how the graspers (the club heirachy) take the fans for a ride....
The most important fact I thought was why is it going to be tucked away in an office where the fans won't get to see it!
Surely it and any other trophies should be on display for all the fans to see it/them!

I don't think the supporters would appreciate looking at an empty cabinet

CEO Rule also commented, “it will be proudly displayed at the Hull FC offices for years to come or until we're skint again and can flog it to avoid 'merging' with Gateshead (again).”

To be fair the club hierarchy have to run the business of today and not yesterday.
The display of the medal is not in an office but in the boardroom. Whilst it may be nice for regular fans to see it, It may have more (financial effect) if it is a display piece for those who are the "money men" who may put into the club and may be swayed by nostalgia, supposedly sdisplayed for their exclusive enjoyment.
And that is the key. As a keen seeker and collector of RL nostalgia myself it has always depressed me that the vast majority of fans don't give a hoot for history or the past.
If any FC fan wants to see it why not ask. If the club say NO then they may THEN stand condemned......
