Damn I see someone got in with Ninian Park , , continuing with the Welsh clubs , theres also

Eugene Cross Park - Ebbw Vale RL
Merthyr- Can't remember the name.
Harlequin Rec ground- Cardiff RL
Talbot Athletic Ground- South Wales RL ( the 1996 version) think Aberavon Fighting Irish played there too.
Sardis Road-Pontypridd RL as far as i know.

And unfortunately the glaringly obvious, Brewery Field - Bridgend only sees football and Union these days! Bridgend RL play out of Porthcawl.

Continuing a Welsh theme Widnes played the Bronco's at Aberavon.

Borough Park (Workington Reds FC) - Workington Town - used for a couple of games before Dewent Park had floodlights.

Town played at Borough Park, Workington from 1945 until the 1956 season when Derwent Park was opened. They used to share the ground with Workington Reds AFC but there was a lot of tension between the Reds manager, a certain Bill Shankly and the Town manager, Gus Risman and our dircetor Tom Mitchell, so Town took a 150 year lease on the land at DP and built the stadium and moved out.

We did play a few matches later as you say when we didn't have floodlights and also when there was a problem with the grandstand after tunneling work for new sewers for the town caused some concern over the structure.
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

First time I went to Workington would have been around 1975 for a Lancs cup semi final that kicked off at about 5.30pm.

A lot of Yorkshiremen believe that when God created the world, he made it with perfect balance.
He balanced the hot areas with the cold areas. the dry areas with the wet areas.
And, in creating Yorkshire, he created the most glorious place on earth - full of majestic beauty and sporting giants.........and for balance he created....... Lancashire.

I went to all the established RL grounds in the early seventies and often drop by places like Thrum Hall and the Athletics ground, wathersheddings etc when passing to remember the places and see how they are now built on and forgotten.

As for defunct grounds before then I sometimes go to the sites of older grounds if passing. It was a delight to see Broughton Rangers "The cliff" still there, and to pass Bradfords old grounds at Park Avenue and Birch Lane where albeit now only cricket some elements of the old rugby grounds remain.

The sites of grounds of clubs themselves defunct often are built on sometimes they remain as sports grounds. I can't remember which do and which don't, nor can I remember what some kind posters tell me is now sat on Liverpools Knotty Ash ground (the original Liverpool city;'s ground is apparently a Police athletic ground) and Wigan Highfields Tunstall Lane.

When passing near Huyton I tried and failed to find the old ground, and posters kindly gave me directions for next time. great stuff.......

I was actually at Alt Park the other day as part of my job with the Council - the stadium is gone but it easy to find, there is now a park bearing the same name on one half fronting Endmoor Road and a building known as the Alt Resource Centre at the junction of Seth Powell Way and Woolfall Heath Avenue.

Sure did - there's a picture of it in Mike Latham's 'British Rugby League - a Groundhopper's Guide' taken in 1966, doesn't look too bad for the period. As far as Alt Park's concerned, former Fulham owner Roy Close once parked his XJ6 on some waste land by the ground and found it untouched after the game - would this be a unique occurence?

Naughton Park isn't extinct.

It's the same site as the old ground just renamed and with new stands.

The old ground that was knocked down in 1996 (?) wouldn't have had any of the structures left in place from the original build in 1895 (despite appearances!) but it was still the same venue.
