Interesting that he's made a point of mentioning this before leaving for Aus. I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if he'd simply criticised Clarke - to be expected. But also specifically mentioning Stevo as well? I wonder if the majority of players share his opinion?
I agree with what he says. Just surprised that he hasn't included Hemmings as well, given that he's the other half of the double act.

His knowledge of the modern game is not what it should be and he just repeats and patronises his viewers.
I posted the below picture previously in jest, but there is an element of truth behind it,

The only problem is, who else could Sky go for?

I would keep; Bill Arthur, Brian Carney, Barrie McDermott and John Wells.
That's it. Everyone else are between tolerable and utter useless.

Arthur can't commentate though - although he is very good at what he does. Would keep Clarke, as long as he's nowhere near any Wigan games.

Clarkey is angling for Stevo's job, being controversial and winding folk up, he'll get the gig. He's good at it.

Phil Clarke is embarrassing though and not just because he can't hide his obvious bias.
He makes the most obvious and pointless comments along the lines of, 'The team that has scored the most tries this year has gone on to win 95% of the games.'

No Bill Arthur can't commentate, but he's more like rabbit in headlights when presenting.
Phil Clarke is one of the worst, I know exactly what irks me about it but I find it hard to put it into words. However I'll try.
It's as if he tries to hard too sound clever, and ends up just sounding like a fool*. Especially in the build-up when he turns his stats into some misguided scientific study.
A perfect (but contrived) example was the other year at a Grand Final when he was comparing Leeds and St Helens to the Large Hadron Collider, I mean wtf? This was a full feature with graphics and the lot, now this obviously was something sky wanted to do, but it was irrelevant and numpty-ish. He's full of misguided similies during regular build-ups. Sputing stats that apply only to the previous few minutes of play. It's very a la mode but also bears no meaning in the context of the rest of the game.
Grr.
*I can't remember what was there before fool, it wasn't an obvious swear word. It could've been t*t.

As outlined above, his obvious bias isn't what annoys me. I actually don't notice it, perhaps cos I'm focused on whether he comes up with stuff that bugs me.

Ever thought he may have been told not to hide his bias, or even been told to use it.

I dont think he is biased I think because he is Wigan through and through everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
He gives an awful lot of praise to other teams and players.
Eddie comes across as a complete Wigan hater and creams himself over Leeds and St Helens.

Really? I've never thought of him as Bradford bias. Perhaps Yorkshire but never Bulls.

If you think RL commentary is bad, compare it to ITV's Champions League (or any football for that matter, the world cup was sick enducing), It's a saliva fest and makes RL commentary seem well informed.

Got to agree with that, ITV should be banned from doing football, Clive Tyldsley and his Man Yoo bias and incredibly crow barre din comments. You knwo he's written a list down before the game and he'll get them in no matter what and he's always looking to come out with "They think it's all over" line. Stevo and Eddie annoying, but they don't mak emy blood boil like that.
