For such a super hero, statue n all, there weren't many Saints supporters around to see him off, in fact there weren't many around to see him finish the game.
He got more recognition from Wiganers than his own mob.

Thought it was only us Wigan supporters who do 'the walk'?

You're taking the gloss of a magnificent Wigan performance. All Saints supporters on here have been gracious in defeat, while praising Wigan no end.
There again, that mob of scousers should be ashamed for not staying.

Wiganers get castigated for doing what a lot of supporters of all teams do, this has nothing to do with last nights win. That said, last night there was actually a reason for Saints supporters to remain in the stadium, to see off their 'hero' (overated hero if you ask me) but he obviously only means a lot to the handful that voted to have his statue erected.
Maybe he's not such a hero after all.

The Max Walls (Hull fans) left when they guessed it was clear Wigan had won. Saints scored after that, and had they scored again (unlikely I'll admit, but Halifax came back from the dead last week) it would have been very tight and they'd have looked pretty silly. Remember "Wide to West".
We left after the hooter - didn't stop for the presentation. But then I've never stopped for the presentation. I've seen Saints beat Wigan, Bulls beat Wigan, Saints beat Hull, Leeds beat Saints and Wigan beat Saints, and never stopped for the presentation - after all it's not as though it was Fev

Whilst Cunningham has been a great clubman for the Saints, he rarely excelled outside the Red V. IMO, this does not make him one of the greats, just a decent first grader.
The guy rarely wanted to play for his country- always electing off-season surgery instead. And in his rare appearances, never did much. If a player is to be classed as a great player and have a statue and all, I think he needs to play outside his comfort zone and play well, such as a player who plays SOO or test footy. Cunningham never did that.
Still, well done to a good club player.

I can't imagine anybody who only plays State of Origin being classes as great. You need to prove yourself at a level higher than that - which Cunningham didn't.

Cunningham is a great of our game. Compare him to any hooker in SL over the last 15years and he comes out on top, and you can include the supposed great Danny Buderus in that. Cunningham got his send off the week before at Knowsley rd.

sorry but that is nonsence. Cunningham played at the top of the game for 15 seasons, consistantly being one of the best players in his role if not the best most seasons. For Lowes you could probably say the same for about 6 seasons. If Cunningham played on next season he would still be one of the best hookers in SL.

Saints have been one of SL's most successful teams during the summer era,and KC has been a member of all of those sides.
Even now at the end of his career there have been posters ( non-Saints fans) on here speculating that Saints will struggle without him now that his career has ended. That just about sums the man up for me. He's been a fantastic player for Saints, and he fully deserves the respect that he commands from Saints fans.
I don't expect fans from other clubs to feel the same about him as the folk of St.Helens do. But it doesn't surprise me that some Wiganer comes out with the kind of cheap shot comment that started this thread.
As a side note why does a player have to have played SOO to be considered a great ? We have a bloke at KR called Chris Flannery, who although is an honest toiler,he's far from a "great" in the same way that Meninga,Lyon or Kenny were.

Would be that the loaf ed who won the Man of Steel award. The one who won his last game he played in at Old Trafford and scored a try. I'm not saying Jimmy was better than Keiron but I'm not saying Keiron was better than Jimmy. I know Lowes didn't play often for G.B. but he had more impact than Cunningham when he did.

Lowes might have had a shorter career, but in his pomp I'd have taken him over Cunningham any day. And he generally played 80 mins.
Saying Cunningham is a better player simply because he had a longer career is a bit like saying Last of Summer Wine is the funniest sitcom ever written just because it went on for years and years.
So he says - "You're not a real fishmonger, you've just done a plop in the wrong lavatory..."

thats an awful comparison as the show in question deteriated hugely, KC never did that was my point. Even with the role of a modern hooker changing over the last decade KC remained at the top/near to the top of the tree every single year. Jimmy was a fine player, one of the best of his generation but i doubt few from outside Bradford would put him above KC.

Not SOO specifically, but just to take a step up and play well for someone other than Saints. Cunningham never got out of his comfort zone and always had good players around him. If he had of switched to play for Castleford or someone, and excelled then he could be considered a great player. Or if he played more for England and excelled he would. But I rate him as no better than a player like Luke Patten at the Bulldogs- who was a great clubman, but never left his comfort zone or took his game to that next level.

Nah, all teams do it, the Saints stroll, Bradford bog-off, Leeds leg-it, Wires Wander, Castleford Can't stay 'til the hooter, Wakefield why did I bother? etc, et al ad nauseum.
JL v KC.
KC walked into a ready made team ready to challenge, Jimmy, I think, started life at Hunslet.
However, both players were intrumental in the top flight of making their respective teams the top 2 in 1 particular stat: dummy half running.
No pass rugby, put plainly, pick up and go.
The role of the "hooker" since the 90's hasn't been the ball winner, the rake in the scrum, he bacame an extra creative player around the ptb, an extra half back, a play maker.
Neither did much passing and playmaking/creating though.
That said, at their prime, both won matches with their 1-2 yard runs to score from acting half, and both helped their respective teams to dominate their respective eras.
