Seems like ESPN have included the wrong type of rugby in their sports broadcast portfolio.

RL needs to think long and hard about whether to look at other broadcasters no matter how much wonga they may offer.
I agree although I think Union has it right. Getting games on both channels. ESPN have really pushed Union it seems and this can only be good for their game. They are still on Sky as well though.

That doesn't shock me one bit.
Who in there right mind wants to sit through a game of Rugby that only has one try.
Jesus wept and to say this is what we are up agaisnt.
The London Irish vs Munster game was just as bad, 15-6 at half time and all points from the boot.
But hey that's kick and ###### for you, atrocious viewing.

What have RU actually sold to ESPN?
Would enough people actually fork out for ESPN for RU or RL for that matter.
I'm sure I would buy ESPN for RL, as I only get Sky sports for RL. I've already organised my cancellation. Even when RL was still on and football at the same time, I found that I did not actually bother watching anything but RL even though I had the option to for no extra outlay.
I just don't know how many of those 200k regular watchers of RL on SKY, are RL followers, or are they sports people who enjoy all kinds of sport regardless of what is on.
If ESPN could garauntee a regular 100k subscribers. Usually subscription costs between £12 and £8 depending on your package from Sky or Virgin.
That's 800k per month of subscription. Feb - October
800k x 9 months = £7.2 million from subscriptions alone. Not including advertising revenue.
The question is could ESPN attract that 100k extra veiwers from RL alone. Is the £7.2 million enough for ESPN to be able to offer enough money to rival SKY's offer.
I was under the impression that sky offers around £48 million for RL over 5 years or so. Can ESPN attract that kind of following and offer good enough money. I'm sure Sky sports will get alot more from advertising that ESPN can.

Super League the only place in the world where people still believe that less competitors and a closed market to new competition will improve the quality of the product.
Even the Chinese and the Cubans gave up on these marxist principles years ago.
SL with a reduced number of competitors and a closed market = North Korea.
