That's a point.

Personally I think if the NCL votes against a switch but 10-19 teams still want to switch then I'd agree with giving them the chance to switch (there's not much point doing it with too few teams, though I guess 7+3RLCN would be the absolute bare minimum and probably too much of a risk for dropouts)

They all have the choice and your general figures might be about right. I just have a feeling that the NCL clubs are like the Musketeers- all for one and one for all - and that nothing will change from what is currently a very satisfying competition unless and until there is a compelling reason to change . As we enter a golden autumn this weekend that is not immediately obvious.....

Yeah I picked 10 as the minimum worth bothering with it for and 19 as one less than majority required to vote for the league to switch (where presumably most clubs would go for it and the few who wouldn't or couldn't would end up in BARLA leagues). I heard 14 for, 18 against and 7 undecided but I don't know the more important breakdown of how many of the 14 want to switch full stop and how many only want to switch in the NCL

You will find that whichever way the vote goes iether for or against the move to summer rugby, they will all go en-mass.

I doubt very much that a small number of clubs will opt out to join a different league set up.
As for haveing a club from each town to represent the northern premier, that will never get voted in.

Is it possible that a Yes vote may still result in some clubs opting to stay out of the National North and returning to winter regional?

It is possible but highly unlikely.
Why would they leave the best run league and go back to sub standard regional league.

On the rare occation that clubs have left is due to their reduced playing strengths.

I think you're misunderstanding my point. I was merely pointing out that if you take all the current clubs in the RLCP and RLC and form 3 cross-South divisions out of them, then the only teams left would be pub-standard newbies, second teams and occasional ######-up teams. All the current teams would have to be utilised just to fill up 3 divisions.

As I'm now involved again in the management of one of the RLCP and RLC sides, I'm not likely to diss the whole competition ! wink.gif

Poacher.... game keeper...... poacher

Why? Very little will change

Queens, Sharlston are both pub/WM Club teams and they do OK.
Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.<div align='center'></div>

What's that got to do with my post?

What's the aim with this new Structure? The only way forward for me (after watching us against New Zealand this morning) is to start giving our own the opportunity to step up, we have to many overseas coaching and playing in the game meaning there are no opportunities for our own to come up through to the pro game. Is switching everything to summer going to change this?? For me I dint think it will.

Amongst the reasons that our players aren't good enough to displace Aussies and Kiwis is because

1. Their core skills from a young age are not good enough, especially the backs
2. The number of players playing the game needs to increase so we find more players from a wider base

Playing in the summer helps to address these issues.

They may not be as skillful as the 'Roos & Kiwis but surely there are some really talented young Backs in this Country like Kyle Eastmond, Sam T, Johnny Lomax, Richard Owens, Tom Brisoe, & Carl Foster, who are very talented.

Having only trained in the winter & played during the summer I think summer RL is far better that winter RL due to the weather... Just wish the Groundsmen would water the pitches for us poor amateurs. biggrin.gif

As well as summer RL we also need better coaches in top level Amateur RL & Academy level RL. Let's hope transferring to summer RL at amateur level does help up the skills & get more people playing. Then again I think we are taking far to much away from lots of amateur RL teams as I've seen plenty of good RL players & teams in amateur RL so it seems a lot of people take out Engladx failing on amateur RL which seems extremely unfair.
