Those of you who are historians of the game may have heard of a book called Rugby Football during the Nineteenth Century: A Collection of Contemporary Essays about the Game which was published in 1896 as part of the Isthmian Library.
A good quality first edition of this will set you back perhaps £300-400.
However, a facsimile is now available on Amazon at £11.49
I've just ordered mine so I'm not sure what the contents actually are but I imagine it's a good companion to the Frank Marshall book "Football: The Rugby Union Game" from a few years earlier, which is also now available from Amazon. I'm pleased to say I do have a first edition of that book, albeit a rather battered one.
Both books are from print on demand publishers.
Certainly the Frank Marshall book is a must-read for students of the early history of the game. I'll let you know what the other one is like.
Interesting books for early game historians
