Where would you play their games?

England vs Wales I'd keep in England, probably try somewhere like the DW Stadium. If marketed right, you could probably get a fair few over from Wales.

Wales vs New Zealand at Wrexham. Keep up with the Crusaders connection.

Wales vs Australia I'd try and take to the Millennium Stadium and get as big a crowd as possible. Even if you only open the bottom tier it'd be a good start and send a message of ambition in Wales.

(Would have the Aus/NZ game at QPR, England vs Australia at Sheffield Utd, England vs NZ at Hull and the Final at Elland Road again, just for the record!)

Its a tough one. Maybe play England and Wales at Saints new ground (if ready?) would be 18,000 not too big, the DW Stadium would be a bit too big and we cant fill it for GB v NZ so Wales wouldnt be a major drawcard.

Wales v NZ in Wrexham would be a good reward for the Cru Crew!

And I agree take the Wales v Kangaroos game to the Milleniuem and promote it as the big event of the autumn.

I'd disagree if we could pull any sort of away support that you just wouldn't get for the Kiwis, I'd have coaches trawling Wales picking up every waive and stray I could find till I'd filled the north stand!

In 1995 we managed to pull in 30,042 at Old Trafford for the England v Wales Semi.

I'd be cashing in on the Boston connection as well and be looking to wheel out every Union convert who's name would ring a bell to help with promotion events - wouldn't have thought they'd be charging that much to put in an appearance these days.

Sadly if it was reflective of the Welsh side, half the game would be in Wrexham, and the second half would be in the north of England grandparent stadium... so the last, last, last ever game at Knowsley Road v England is on!

I wouldn't put any Wales Rugby League game at the Millennium it would be an embarrassment, can you imagine 2,000 people in a 74,500 capacity stadium. Until they get someone employed who knows how to market the game (with Gareth Thomas as ambassador) they should be playing in a small venue in the South.
If they wanted to try a bigger ground to send a message out then, perhaps Cardiff's lego land or Swansea's Liberty Stadium 2,000 wouldn't look as lost

When has a Wales international at the Millennium Stadium ever got a 2,000 crowd? They'd get at least 10k, and could get about 20k probably with a good bit of promotion. They got 18k against NZ in the WC and 8k against them in a friendly in 2002.

That is not a bad schedule. A bit like Shrek I can remember the 1995 semi and the thousands that came from Wales and thought that we'd finally got our equivalent of the union internationals. Sadly we lost those Welsh stars, and I don't think this Welsh side comes close to being the attraction that one was, but it could just fire the imagination of the Welsh (and the English?). 30,000 plus might not be possible but the fixture could have the DW packed to the rafters (depending when it is played, of course).

The game at Wrexham should also be capable of reaching capacity - what an attractive fixture that would be: an international fixture against world champions in a town that has been starved of top international fixtures for decades.

I'm just a bit unsure about the Millennium. A game against the Aussies, especially with the Welsh having earned the right to play them, and with all the publicity surrounding a tournament involving the best rugby teams in the world, could and should attract more than the 2000 WC game against NZ. What would the impression be of, say, 20,000 in the Millennium be, though? Just having the bottom tier open could work but would it be better at the new Cardiff or Swansea soccer stadiums? Or would the Millennium be part of the attraction (and don't forget the Welsh soccer team rarely play to a packed stadium)?

Welsh participation could be massive!

I thought a fair few of them were 'home-grown' these days.

If Wales win the European Cup their game against England game would have to be played in Wales. Imagine what Australia would make of England playing all their games at home when another european country is involved. France are playing all their games at home in the European Cup, not exactly a level playing field biggrin.gif

That is a reason why the Aussies would want all the games in England - so they could make a fuss if things didn't go their way! biggrin.gif

IMO the Millennium Stadium should be avoided at all costs.

I would hold the New Zealand game at Wrexham and the game vs Australia at Cardiff's new ground (capacity 28,000).

No need to worry about things not going Australia's way, I'm sure they will insist on being able to choose the referee's for their games again!

Whilst the Aussies choose their own side; for the next decade they'll have nothing to worry about.

I'd agree, the Cardiff City Stadium looks superb and the capacity should be more than enough and look decent with anything like a crowd in.

Off topic, but shame we can't do a "mini magic" there in conjunction with the Millennium Magic event.

That would be a good idea in principal mate, hold a mini magic there for the Championship clubs over the two days.

It’s a pretty big if. In the film Pulp Fiction Harvey Keitel said something along the lines of ‘gentlemen let’s not start s*****g each others d***s just yet’ or words to that effect. I’m praying Wales can beat Ireland and France, fingers crossed, and Iestyn can keep the boys focused on the job in hand.

I agree. I'll add to either this or PS's thread as and when the EC is done and dusted and we know who's in the 2011 4N.

Like I said in the France thread, financial considerations mean the England v fourth nation match would take place in England where they can make more money. Somewhere like Wigan is a good idea because it is close for people from Wrexham to travel.

Cardiff City is a great venue but it may be a bit too big. Swansea FC is slghtly smaller and close to Neath, where Scorpions are establishing some roots.
