Most clubs sold their own match day programmes at a loss. In todays financial climate can't see many clubs reintroducing them, especially as the printers always wanted a minimum order.
For Hunslet far better to continue with the match day teamsheet, plus a few notes, at 50p, it's more up to date

Previously clubs were obliged to produce a matchday programme as a condition of their licence; whether this will be continued or not I don't know but it would seem likely. The alternative of simply producing teamsheets, whislt financially pragmatic, does put the competition at the level of the amateurs doesn't it?
I don't know what the answer should be, unless you put a quid on the gate and give everyone a free programme.

I remember that when Sheffield Eagles first entered the Rugby League, they produced programmes which covered two matches (with two sets of teamsheets, and two sets of appropriate pen pics) as opposed to the traditional one.
Whether thats still feasible, I don't know.

Yes it was, within just a couple of years. If you also remember there always had to be a "free gate" for those who didn't want to buy a programme, as they couldn't charge for admission alone. Strangely enough this free gate was always mighty difficult to find at most grounds.
{Batley got around the problem by charging people to leave, but that's another story entirely.}

I've just had confirmation that clubs will be obliged to produce matchday programmes, not least to fulfil the obligations to sponsors.
