Just been told by a committee member that as RLC Premiership Grand Final winners, St Albans are entering the Challenge Cup.
Because its no where near the RLC season and will be 3 or 4 months since their last game (assuming the games are in January) St Albans have organised a couple of friendlies in December to sharpen them up.
5th December against the Druids, a Welsh representative team and 12th December against Southampton Spitfires. They also hope to have their U18's play games against these teams juniors before the seniors game.
Rugby league in December, down south - what is the world coming to?

The dates given are Sunday, is that right. And are the games at home.
On wikipedia it says how the first round is made up and includes 'six representatives of the Rugby League Conference (including one each from Scotland and Wales)' Anyone know how these six are picked. Cheers.

The number and method changes every year. But something like the 3 RLCN teams that want to enter plus Premier winners and Welsh and Scottish winners.

Last year Wizards, Nottingham and someone else entered think it was either Dewsbury Celtic or Fev Lions

I believe the games are on a Sunday and are at St Albans. I'm sure that proper details will be on the St Albans website in due time.

I see on their website that because they won the Regional Grand Final, Northampton Demons have also been invited to take part in the first round of the Challenge Cup. Good luck to them too.

Is the game on 5th December still on? I'm in St Albans that day and think I'll come along.
disques vogue

The club where Eurovision isn't a dirty word. A waltz through the leopard skin lined world of Tom Jones, Bert Kampfert and Burt Bacharach. Step out to the sound of the happy hammond and swing to the seductive sounds of the samba.

DJ's, raffles, cocktails and wide collars. Please dress smart. Gentlemen might like to wear a suit.

Same price. Same music. Same rubbish prizes.

Nobody's said that it isn't, so I hope so (I'm hoping to be there)

Just been speaking to the Cents chairman and as far as he knows it's still on, as he hasn't heard anything
from the Welsh lads to the contrary.

Dammit, seems Jonty was on to something!

No Game against the welsh as they can't get a team but we should still have Southampton on the 12th of December.

Northampton have been drawn to play Gloucester University on Jan 16th at home and if successful will face Leeds Met University a week later again at home.

The coaches, players and club as a whole are up for the cup

St Albans Cents 52 - 28 Southampton Spitfires
Back to the old days, standing in a muddy field, freezing cold with showers watching rugby league.
Big well done to the Southampton squad and Glenn Tyreman for travelling all that distance to play a friendly in December. Cents only had about six or seven players from their National winning squad as several were abroad and a wedding event cut their numbers down. A couple of new players made their debut and lads from the juniors and development squad made the step up. Cents started off at a belting pace, running in some great tries, then Spitfires made a great fight back, only for Cents to run away with it towards the end.
Spitfires looked a good outfit, great lads with a never give up attitude, they should do well next season.
Next stop, 9th(?) January against a very good British Police side in the Challenge Cup biggrin.gif

A big thanks to Southhampton for making the trip on a day it would have been all to easy to have stayed in bed.
I hope Centurions can repay you in the future and good luck for next season.

According to the Cents website it is now being played on Wednesday 12th January at hemel hempsteads ground. Kick off to be confirmed. Do HH have flood lights? as I can't see the game being played during the day as I would think most of the Cents boys will be at work.

As an aside, has anyone else noticed how ###### the cents website is this year. For the last few years it was probably one of the best amateur club sites out there, then they seemed to change their format/style and gone down the plug hole. No updates, no info, no photos - they didn't even print the score of the Cents/Spitfires game, just a brief report saying they won. If anyone from the club reads this, back to the old format plaese.

I don't think they mean January 12th. It still says 12th December, which was the date of the friendly against Southampton and the date simply hasn' t been changed.
The website was indeed excellent but someone else is now 'webmaster'. And, no, it isn't as good now. But they are all volunteers, so hey ho.
