One rumour on the Haven site was that Brett McDermott, Chris Young and Liam Campbell were all signing for Haven!!!!!!!
It would be nice to hear what's happening with Stack and have we got Dobbo signed on or not.
Can't help thinking though that Haven are now reaping the benefit of running a reserve team and pinching all the good young lads from Allerdale. How come the West Cumbria Under 18's team is now regarded as another Haven team by their fans?
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Exactly Keith,i thought that we played at both grounds every other week but it looks like haven have kicked that into touch with all the coaches and trainers being from there, and why can we not set up an u23s like what haven are doing next season,on the barrow lads,i think it is a load of ######,i know campbell and young would come back to town, and broady would follow his mates to dp(i think),on the dobbo situation has usual we have had no news but i think he will come to town, here's hoping?and stacky i have heard nothing but rumours.

Without last seasons reserve team I don't think Haven would be in a position to put a team on the park this season and we need to address this problem now before we get left well behind as far as youngsters go.

Now we are both on a level playing field as far as league and playing budgets, so base your opinions on this coming season rather than what's gone on previously.
Regarding Danny Barker, well he has the potential not to be a bad player, but I don't think he would be anything other than a squad player, he certainly doesn't seem to be setting the world alight at Glasson from what I've heard

DTTRR's, we have had good players come through our scholarship system and then they end up going to Haven. The reason as I see it is to play in their reserve team which is a natural progression and I don't see that stopping at the present time. The Under 18's are now looked on by some Haven fans as their team, their young players, when it is supposed to be a district team. So, I don't think it's anything to do with whether Haven were a better team than us it is more to do with there was nowhere here that we could offer them to naturally progress. Unless that is about to change then I can't see any change in the way things are at present.

However this season i think you will find most haven fans would agree that he was havens most improved player .His all round game improved and he was one of our top perfomers in a season where we struggled.
Even though he spent quite a few games out injured he was a different player this season in most aspects of his game.He is one player who i would like to see sign for haven again

Cannot argue on that point haven4ever,the only time i have seen young barker is when we played haven in the ike southward trophy and in the cup game and both times he was taken off injured. No doubt the young kid will improve over the years and turn out to be a good player,i hope which ever team he plays for he shows us both what we now talking about,i hope he signs for town, you hope he signs for haven, but whichever he chooses i wish him good luck...................

N-DEMAND prospect Danny Barker has repaid Whitehaven’s faith by staying loyal to the club and penning a new one-year contract.
Staying at the Recre: Haven youngster Danny Barker in action against Batley
The 21-year-old back-rower was one of Haven’s success stories in a dire season for the club, making 18 first-team appearances, culminating in a late drop-goal at Keighley in their penultimate game that ended a 13-match losing streak.
“They’ve been good to me since I was 13, through the scholarship and Academy, and gave me the chance to break in to the first-team last season,” Barker said.
“I had been given chances in the past and not taken them, but last year I got my act together.
“I needed to grow up and was at the stage where I made it in the first-team or wasn’t going to make it at all. I got my head down.
“It’s more about loyalty than anything else. I thought it was the right time to sign.”
Barker, from Maryport, spoke to Workington Town before penning his new deal and was made an offer. He admitted: “I was tempted but there are times when you have to put that to one side and look at your priorities.”
Haven have lost a handful of players since relegation and administration, but Barker is looking on the bright side.
“We have lost a couple of lads, but we may gain in other places,” he added. “We have a good Academy side coming through and there’s nothing to say those lads, given an opportunity, can’t take their chance.
“It will be tough next year with a nine-point deduction, but hopefully the lads will gel quickly, we can get a few wins under our belts and take it from there.”

I agree that Haven do get more coverage in the local press than Town but can we only blame the press for this situation? The Whitehaven News for instance give quite a lot of their sports pages to Haven plus a column from Alan Irving solely for them. Even in the T & S, John Fuller has a dedicated column for the Reds and Football in general. Meanwhile Town have maybe a small corner of the back page if we are lucky. This weeks evening paper so far hasn't had a great deal in about Town except the Chairman's comments about the season ahead. So do we sell oursleves as well as we could?
Haven reporters obviously have the ear of the Cumbria Newspapers Group sports editor more than ours by the amount of coverage they receive in comparison to us but could we be more media friendly and forthcoming with information? Stories can be put together about many things like next seasons prices, season ticket prices, new strips for next season for Xmas presents, players signing or leaving, praise for our sponsors, or just keeping fans informed and in the circle.

I agree with all of that Keith, but it doesn't help when the sports editor is a Town hating haven fan.

But the sports editor for the T & S is a different person and on today's back page, the main sport's page, there is as much about haven as there is about Town, so it is more than just one person that is letting Town down.

I thought that professionals couldn't play amateur rugby unless they had been released?
