I'm ABSOLUTELY terrified. Its never a good idea to threaten someone you don't know, by the way.
And to Redditch Bulldog, get real. The job might be 'voluntary', but if the clubs is losing money every home game from the job not being seen through until 3.10, then its not good enough. Missing ten minutes of the match is not too much to ask. I don't do the job because I want to see the first ten minutes of the match, hence me not volunteering. However, if I was to volunteer for ANYTHING, I would do it to the best of my ability and certainly not leave the job 1/2, 3/4, or 7/8's done. Say 15 cars (a reasonable estimate) come into the ground after 2.55, thats £30.00 a match. Over a season thats nearly £500, which is money that could be put to good use. Its important for a small club like ours to maximise all income streams.
However, its good to know that when you try and point out ways in which the club can increase revenue, you can expect to be shot down in flames as a 'rabble rouser'.

But how much would be collected in fees if the volunteers that do it did not bother at all?
I am sure there will be a queue round the ground of volunteers to turn up in all weathers, take the abuse (not often) from people parking the cars and stop people walking in to the ground without paying etc.
Then as the present staff do pay to get in to the ground.
How many of the hand outs to the club would the "Supporters Club" be able to give without the work of these people? amounts that do not get much if any publicity

I'm making the observation that whenever I arrive at the ground on matchdays, which is normally between 2.55 and 3.05, there is never anyone about to take parking money, and thats been the case for about 4 years. I normally follow (or am followed) by three or four cars into the ground, so God knows how many other people arrive between those times.
All I am saying is that I don't think its too much to ask to stick around for an extra ten minutes (lets be more generous and say between 2.55 and 3.05), and reap the benefits of the extra £30-£40 it would probably bring.
If thats too much to ask, then I'm sorry for bringing it up. End of story.

I am not sure anyone is missing your point Frank. I think that others seem to be saying that surely it is better to have someone doing the job and sacrifice missing the few cars at kick-off time than have noone there at all because they do not want to miss any of the match. You yourself said you would not do it as you did not want to miss the kick-off. I would not like to do it as I am selfish because I like to get in early, see the warm -up and have a drink or something to eat.
Fair do's to the supporters club and the bloke who does it for collecting that revenue for the club. I would expect over the course of a season it amounts to a significaant sum of manaey and dwarves the £500 pound estimaated to have been lost by people's desire to see all of the match.

Here's a few other ideas ;
- Using the Brian Cooney suite and Bulldog bar for childrens birthday parties (i.e. renting the room out and opening the bar, maybe providing a buffet for a small but profitable fee).
- Using the Brian Cooney suite,Bulldog bar for family/kids parties at certain times of the year (i.e. Halloween, Christmas, Easter etc...) There are lots of families with young children who attend our home matches, I'm sure that they would more than likely take their youngsters to an organised party up at the Mount at a small price.
- What about a half-time goal-kicking competition for fans? Simply sell raffle tickets to fans before and during the first-half, draw the winner, and get the fan on to the pitch at half-time to have an attempt. Suppose the club sells 100 tickets at a pound each, if the fan succeeds in kicking the goal, set the prize money at 30% of the tackings. Thats £70 pound profit for absolutely minimal expenditure evry home match.
- Finally, a point about maintenance. I believe the club currently has two stair-lifts within the ground. I know that at least one of them isn't working (the one leading up to the VP Lounge), and it hasn't been for a long time. I have a friend (also an ardent Batley fan) who works as a lift engineer and would gladly help the club out with this. I dare see he would also be willing to maintain them. He tells me that to hire someone to repair them would cost around £500 per lift. If someone from the club would like to get in touch with him and save some money through using his services, please PM me for his phone number.

same old Batley forum with more lovers tiffs, allegiances and idle threats than an omnibus of eastenders!
The few ageing stalwarts at the club that do their fair share of graft 24/7 for nothing other than for the love of the gallant youths are well know and respected.
If someone reckons a job is being done badly then press the red cross in the right hand corner of your pc and get yer sen involved.

I would also imagine that the £20-30 that is lost every home game due to the car park entrance being unmanned from around 14.55 MORE than equates to what the club would pay someone to do the job.
Ive heard that if you arrive late you generally dont have to pay to park, seems to be common knowledge amongst Batley supporters on a budget. Not sure what the solution is, but like any sporting event, there will be numerous cars turning up late, so could cost the club a fair few quid over the course of the season and should be looked at.
Suppose if the volunteers want to watch the game, the club could stick one of the stewards they are already paying that day on the car park to relieve the volunterrs of their duties to ensure late comers pay?

It seems to me that if you are not prepared to volunteer then you are not in any position to knock those that do ! The mere fact that you have admitted that you do not want to miss the first minutes invalidates any points that you may have had !
It's a case of "do not do as I do , do as I say " . The Supporters Club Committee Members do a huge amount of work at the Mount and do nor need nor derserve narks like you having a go . If you are not prepared to put up then shut up !!

If Mr Drebin would care to think before he makes his banal comments he may ponder on how difficult it is to attract and keep volunteers. The comment about the Samaritans is totally irrelevant and some may say in bad taste. It takes 3 or 4 people to run the car park,at the request of the Club, who do it whatever the weather. The club have been asked on several occasions to provide a steward near kick off but it has not happened often. As for asking the volunteers to miss the beginning of the match, get real! By virtue of the volunteers being members of the supporters club, the operative word being "supporter", it must be apparent to the dimmist person that they would not want to miss any of the match,or if losing the £20.00 or so is of great concern, why doesn't Mr.Drebin come sooner and pay his £2.00!
Comments like this are giving the Supporters Club serious considerations to pack it all in.We don't need, or deserve the hassle. IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO HELP. PLEASE DON'T CRITICIZE !

You're the one with the problems pal. Anyone so keen to profess to everyone what a big Alpha Male they are with their talk of prison spells, rugby career and physical threats must have issues. Please stop posturing. I'd actually place a bet that you spend your time swaggering round Bransholme Estate like a carpet thief with a Staffy on a choke chain, and have a spiders web tattooed on your neck.

I am thinking something like Buy@BISSA but on a local level.
I know I would donate a minimum 10% of anything spent with me on production of a Bulldog Discount Card(or a code for telephone orders)
Unfortunately I have pulled out of Batley & Dewsbury now so my only outlet is Thornhill but I would still be willing to participate.
