That is comfortably the weakest Australian team for years.

Solid team
Plenty of players like Tonga that will be hungry to re establish themselves.
Its almost the old theory about Oz being able to field 3 top teams, this is almost the second level team.
I predict undefeated with some thrashings in the process.

Its obviously a strong team but relative to previous Aussie teams its quite weak.

They could go undefeated but then so could the kiwis. I think they will lose at least once.

Not keen on their pack and a couple of their marquee backs are out. Slater, Cronk, Lockyer not played for 7 weeks. Shame we werent playing them first.

Its a bit old and unadventurous looking isn't it?

They've lost a few through injuries, especially the 3/4s but the best they can think of is to recall Toquiri who's had a good year, but is essentially yesterday's man. No youngsters worth blooding??

Gidley always gets a bench spot, not sure why.

Surely a younger prop should be able to knock Petero out of the team??

Gallen always gets picked, not sure why any more.

If you're going to recall all the oldies, why no Gasnier? Pure skill factor.

This MUST be lockyer's last year.

Now obviously all of the above are class players and we'd love to have them, but I just think they should've freshened up a bit.

A very conservative line up indeed.

On paper, I think I would agree with that analysis. However, as they say, it isn't played on paper, so we can expect the forwards to perform in an unspectacular, but relentlessly grinding fashion for 80 minutes, laying a platform for their (second choice) backline, which will be far too good for PNG, and probably too good for England. I think NZ could turn this lot over.

Watmough to be sent off in the next game.

I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Yeah it may be a bit unadventurous but I wish we could afford to be the same and remain as confident.

Phew, thank god. That would still have got your previous comment I suppose, but at least it will spare our blushes. Agree on Tuquiri, there oodles younger and better but sadly, he will still worry us.

Gidley if English would see him being Captain, saviour or whatever he wanted to be. The lad has carried his club through an entire season and you cannot see his worth? Nuff said.

Not been my favourite but watching the NRL 5this term has made me realise that he is still worth his salt. As for a young un to replace him.............sadly there is a production line full of them in waiting.

You must not have watched Gallen at all, in the manner of Gidley he has been immense for Cronulla and more than anyone deserves his place in the present Oz line up. Take note of his workrate...phenominal.

Gasnier is no longer anywhere near Australian International class, there are many streets ahead of him. I must admit that I am a little perplexed over Tonga but Webb has been truly outstanding at the Warriors.

He is in a side that can carry him and I think does but those passes are still as crisp as exist in this game a split defences consistently, but yes a swan song I would expect.

Its a mixture of new and old and in my opinion they are trying to prove that they could possibly field a couple of teams that could win it. Although I believe that the Kiwi's may have something to say over that.

I respect your POV but

Gidley is class nad has been carrying a ###### Newcastle side. So what? ATEOTD he's an ageing fullback and a waste of the bench spot he always seems to get but never does anything with.

Gasnier is class, pulled out some suberb stuff in the playoffs. Id even have Cooper over Tonga.

Gallen is a workhorse, but he's a shambles of a bloke who's ley himslef down many times. They have plenty of other options.

You don't actually mention Lockyer, but we appear to agree on him.

You say mixture of old & new, but what is new??

Yes, they will "worry" us. They'll hammer us probably, but I think they couldve taken advanatge of a few injuries and a few over the hill players to change the faces a bit.

Excuse my Cronulla bias but Gallen got the players player award from his team mates last 4 nations. I think you've seen too many Gallen media lines and not enough of his real contribution to a game.
