He's been okay this morning. Granted there is still 13 minutes left, but way better than those clowns on Sky.

Sorry but I can't stand his commentary. It's not his fault, the BBC have had him commentating for twenty odd years, he's never improved his poor style. I'm sure they like it that way.

I actually preferred watching a live internet stream that broke down occasionally, with a poorer picture, just because the commentary was so much better.

Even though it was a bunch of Aussies. ohmy.gif

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan at all. However he was far less intrusive this morning than normal, but so much better than Eddie and Stupid.

Who watches RL for the commentry? I'd prefer to watch a good quality picture on TV than an Internet feed.

Each to their own Dave, but I find a good commentator really adds to the enjoyment of watching a live match.

Ray Warren, Peter Sterling and co do a fantastic job over in Oz. Their wit and knowledge of the game is terrific and they're always accurate, if a little rolleyes.gif biased towards the Green and Golds. This morning they were full of praise for the Kumuls' efforts but addmitedly got a bit twitchy towards the end of the 2nd half with their faves struggling to score.

When I eventually blush.gif realised the game was live on BBC2, I put the tv on and settled down to watch. Only a matter of moments passed before I found myself wanting to throw summat at the screen due to French's inane mumblings and inaccuracies.

So, as I like to hear the crowd and info from the commentary, the internet feed it was. Never gave it a second thought to go back to the tv, even though the feed dropped a few times.

I think they're terrible actually, but I've said how and why elsewhere previously.

As I've posted elsewhere, I was at a Morley Literary Festival event last week which featured Ray, Tony Hannon. Tony Collins and Phil Kaplan.
Ray came across as an intelligent, and very articulate speaker. But I agree he does seem to lose something when he starts commentating.
Apparently when he started for the Beeb his brief was simple. Not to be Eddie Waring.

Earlier in the week I said that I was glad that the BBC had sent French over, but now I'm really not. As I mentioned in another thread, I ended up watching the poorer quality live stream because of him, and generally the commentary doesn't wind me up, although I'm not a fan of the Aussie commentators generally.

The best commentary I've heard this weekend was Woods and Noble by some distance.

thought Gary freeman was good alongside him.. which was a help to Ray i feel.

the bbc presentation for the England game was excellent i thought, with Claire balding in the studio and guests. and nice to see at todays game that the idiot they employ to do the team line-up graphics actually got the 'forwards' and 'backs' right this time! (its only taken three games for that to happen), but sadly no one seemed to tell the BBC Adrian Lam was no longer coach, as the graphics suggested!..

In him they have their Eddie Waring! Done as much to restrict RL growth as anyone has Ray!

You can hardly blame the beeb for the graphics when its an Australian feed. Mind you I was glad to see the end of NZ feeds. They seem to think everybody has letterbox tvs and put the clock and tackle count on the Californian coast.

He's a nice bloke but he struggled to name individual players and didn't really have any grasp of the intricacies of the game.

New commentator needed IMHO. Nice holiday for though, no doubt.

As I posted on the match thread, I actually thought Ray worked really well with Gary Freeman this morning. That's probably because Gary is a regular TV pundit on Fox in Australia. I can't believe people would rather watch an internet feed of a game than watch in on TV just because of the commentary.
