.....get relegated/demoted? If not should they? Maybe this would increase competitiveness and throw out of the window the "building for the World Cup" statements, when we should be trying our best to win this 4 nations.

As it stands the team that finishes bottom won't be in next year's 4 Nations. Teams like PNG, France and Wales are not up to the level of the 'big 3' - so they will usually finish bottom. Unfortunate but that's the way it is.

England, Australia & New Zealand are the big 3 permanent nations, the 4th nation is the winner (for now) of the Northern/Southern hemispheres playoffs, so for us its the European Cup, for them it's PNG v Cooks v Fiji v Tonga.

I will quote you on this when PNG beat a third string England in 2 weeks, hopefully not!

No chance. PNG showed nothing in attack today. We've got absolutely nothing to worry about.

I appreciate that but I think Wales can cause some surprises next time and have no reward for it.

The 4 Nations is a financial joint-venture between the RFL, ARL and NZRL who share the profits but also the financial risk. The fourth participant does so at the invitation of the tournament owners, they do not participate by right.

PNG took a lot of their domestic league players (from the islands)for these 4 nations games, they are looking to 2013 and gave a mix off a second string side a run with some experience thrown in.

Bit of good PR spin on the situation there. The reality is that Adraian Lam quit as coach and some of the NRL based players have declined to play because of interference in team selection from one of the officials at the PNGRFL. As I understand it new coach Stanley Gene is a good friend of this person. The RL out there have been given a lot of money to help in the bid for an NRL team - and where there's money there's someone in a suit just waiting to spend it.

Apart from the financial reward, experience and Kudos, what do they stand to gain from it? Nothing, thats what!

Though think there'd then be no 4 Nations til 2014 so who knows what happens in the meantime (unless I'm wrong and they're having one in 2012?)
