The aftermath of this has been fantastic. Every sports fan in Wales who will watch TV news or read the sports pages today will know about the win over France.

We're talking...

  • Centre pages of the Western Mail - a publication who are said to be "in the pockets" of the WRU and don't normally do that good publicity for the game
  • Back page of the South Wales Echo
  • Slots on BBC and ITV Wales news on Saturday evening, Sunday evening, Monday lunchtime and Monday evening (coming tonight of course).
  • Two features on the weekly Sports Wales programme on BBC 2 Wales, last Friday preview and this Friday report - they travelled to France to do this!
  • Radio coverage from GTFM and BBC, aftermatch on BBC, regular reports from the ground from GTFM and after report in Welsh on Tuesday.
  • BBC Wales Online did a number of reports too. The Wales games were the ONLY three covered by the BBC at all online.

We've had a tough struggle in the past but things are looking up and we need to keep this momentum going.

The publicity by the Western Mail is especially pleasing given the paper's general stance on League. I know that you've been doing a lot of work in promoting the game so well done. Gwaith da a dal ati!

Crusaders should also benefit greatly from this for the new Super League season, launching at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium! Perfect.

I said the other day that this would get more news in Wales than it would in France if they had qualified.

Great news for the game in Wales. Pardon the pun. Good to see the BBC can do it if they try.

I was working over in Newport today, and the woman sat on the next desk to me was chatting with one of the other subs about Wales' RU's latest injury - Lee Byrne. I took the opportunity to mention Wales win over France yesterday in the League. She said "they won did they?" I explained how they'd now be playing England, Australia and New Zealand in next year's Four Nations and she should go to the matches in Wales. She said she'd been to see the Crusaders at Rodney Parade and really enjoyed it.

They all seem rugby mad there, and while this is mostly union, the vast majority seem open to the idea of watching League and quite like it.

Good to know there was lots of coverage - it's really a remarkable story. I know Iestyn, Mark Rowley and the others had the Four Nations in their sights - it's terrific that they qualified. I really hope they play at least one of their games in South Wales next year - I want to drag a load of Welsh people I know along and convert them!

Just watched the BBC Wales sports report and the first story was the success of the Welsh RL team with great pictures of the team celebrating the win. Then at the end the reporter said "And now let's switch codes..." to talk about Lee Byrne's injury. Wow, Union - the other code - coming second in the headline list! Normally, a Lee Byrne hand injury is more newsworthy than anything; not this time!

He used to be a regular at Crusaders when they were in Bridgend too. Good bloke and a mate of Gareth Thomas's too, so there's hope for him to convert if we're lucky.

talking of converts, might be a good time with the chance of a shot on the big stage with Wales now, I wonder if we'll see any moves before the new season?

That's good. Bit disappointed that the South Wales Argus rugby reporter/chief columnist didn't mention the RL victory in his weekly column - just rambled on about Wales RU's injuries. He could easily have found a little space to congratulate the RL boys.

He seems a generally sound chap though - mentioned that his sister in law used to be married to some Saints legend (now deceased). He was full of praise for League last time I spoke to him.

His name's Robin something or other. Davey I think. Ian should get on the blower to him at the Argus' Newport HQ.

I picked up a copy of the South Wales Echo (Cardiff's Daily Paper) on Monday and got a little knarked that there was as much /MORE coverage of a second tier RU match ( Cardiff v Pontypridd- admittedly a local derby)
than the picture of Iestyn and the boys celebrating/ comments etc , and then spoke to the News agent who knew about our achievements from all formats to be fair ! That must be down to you Mr Goulden.

Thankfully later this week the coverage in other formats has been very impressive as it should be, It doesnt come close to what we experienced with the Six Nations 2 years ago, but alot better than I feared it might be!

People are starting to take notice!

I am hoping Cardiff City AFC can re- arrange the KO time for the Scunthorpe home match on Feb 12th
so we can get a few more interested locals down on the day to the Millennium. Thankfully the Cru play Sunday.
I think we have to use Cardiff City Stadium for atleast one Wales match in the Four Nations too.
