Hawks Swoop For Super League Academy Starlet.

Director of Rugby Darren Williams said " Andy hit's hard in defence and prefers the physical side of the game and loves to offload. He was awarded a squad number in 2010 but failed to force his way into Mick Potter's plans. He was highly thought of by Daniel Anderson and was the Man Of The Match in St Helens Academy Grand Final victory against Wigan in 2008. Without a doubt he is a real coup signing for the Hawks as he was chased by Whitehaven, Oldham & Leigh and will be a force to be reckoned with as the club looks to consolidate in the Championship. "
Williams added " Andy has already shown his enthusiasm and desire in his first week at the club and he has good habits instilled into him during his formative years at the Saints. "

Good credentials. I can't remember the last player we got from St Helens, but I think the last player we sold to Saints would be Andy Bateman.
Would still like to know Hawkeye how the Coaching/Management team intend some of these new signings to get any playing time? -- unless that's a trade secret.

I'm a born and bred Sintelliner but may well be over on Boxing Day depending on team sheet. Hope you guys give a good account of yourselves at this next level - good luck for the coming season.

If he's a "starlet" why did saints let him go?
Just asking you understand.

I guess the truth is they didn't think it worth renewing his contract and weren't prepared to wait (he is still only 20 which is young for a prop). He's trained with 1st.Team constantly as part of Saints fast-tracking system and had been told he was "knocking on the door" but my personal opinion is that the signing of Perry and McCarthy Scarsbrook along with the likes of Graham and Clough et all already there just shunted him down the pecking order a bit and although not huge, his contract did perhaps add to the salary cap I guess??? Saints production line of young "starlets" is in full swing (I know 'cos I'm part of it but as a coach at a very junior player level) and not all are destined to immediately play SL but it doesn't mean they are bad players as I'm sure Andy will prove. I'm just glad of this opporunity for the kid to prove himself - have patience.

noboby from the hawks is knocking him MrYat our boy plays for the Hawks and says Andy travels all the way from STs to train and looks a great prospect so im sure marchy will give the lad all the encouragement he needs to prove himself and all the doubters wrong.

I hope he does very well for us the fact that he is willing to travel so far to training is a good sign shows that he is hungry and keen to make a impact i look forward to see how he goes

Hi suzzy ... thanks for that but didn't really think anyone was knocking him nor doubting him - nobody's seen him yet to make a judgement. Was just answering a question from BSJ that's all.
I'm sure like you that with Marchy driving him on he'll get all the encouragement in the world and maybe become one of the crowds favourites but that of course has to be earned.
I'm a Johnny Foreigner on your forum being a born and bred Saints man and involved with Saints SA coaching, Lancashire U/17's coaching and Vice Chair of Thatto Heath Crusaders - St.Helens so not a whole lot of spare time but will promise to pop over when I can and pay my money on the gate to come and watch you folks as I'm AY's uncle

more the merrier mate lets hope its the start of a good relationship with the Saints. The York Knights have the Rhinos maybe the Hawks could have the Saints that would make some good banter on here
