They are truly a terrible terrible set of channels. Lame dramas, dumb daytime tv and virtually nothing for anyone with any ounce of intelligence. The channel seems to be aimed exclusively towards middle aged women and dumb teenagers, and the less said about ITV2 the better.
To think they're after license fee money.

Agreed. 'Richard Bacon's Beer & Pizza Club' on ITV4 is quite possibly the worst television show ever made.
On the plus side, they seem to show a different Bond film every day of the week. Not necessarily a good thing, but reassuring in a weird kind of way.

There is the very occasional exception, at the moment I am really enjoying Downton Abbey. But it'll probably be another 18 months before anything comes round that's worth watching again.

Not a lot of decent stuff. However, Al Murray and Harry Hill are essential-viewing shows and, despite its slagging in the press, I find Daybreak much better to watch than BBC Breakfast News. The Breakfast News team is so so nice ; if it was possible to have a home counties cricket club's debating society in the 1960's, well that's where they'd have come from.

depends what you are looking for in an early morning programme.. if you are looking for news then BBC Breakfast News is much better.. inane ramblings can wait till i have gone to work.. news while having breakfast to catch up with what has been going on and what might impact my day is useful so its the News for me.. daybreak or GMTV or whatever was before this can beggar off..
Downton Abbey on the other hand is a fantastic show and hte type of thing the BBC normally does well...other than that i havent seen ITV or anything good on it for ages..

'Magpie' was a magazine-style kids' programme that, for a few years, was the ITV alternative to 'Blue Peter'. It was considered cooler; a bit like the comparison between 'Swap Shop' and 'Tiswas'.
It is mainly remembered by those D-list slebs who turn up on Channel 4's '100 Greatest TV Moments' nostalgia clip shows. Without exception, they always claim they never ever watched 'Blue Peter' and always tuned in to 'Magpie'. They will then say how much they fancied Susan Stranks (one of the presenters).
Twenty minutes further into the same programme, they will almost certainly pop up again, this time reminiscing fondly about great 'Blue Peter' moments.

Don't watch Daybreak but your description of BBC Breakfast is absolutely spot on.
