It depends if Labour choose Woolas again. Can they?
Found guilty of "knowingly making false statements", he should realise that what may have practised as a producer of BBC TV Newsnight is not acceptable at an election.

At least it gives those of us who live in the constituency a chance to give the Lib Dems a good kicking!
I'm no great fan of Woolas but to be honest, both of them descended to some pretty poor tactics throughout the campaign. Be interesting to see the tone of the leaflets next time!

Interesting dilemma for the Coalition. Last time it was a 3-way marginal. 31.9% Lab, 31.6% LD, 26.4% Tory.
So will they both have candidates?

Labour cannot choose Woolas, he is now debarred from standing! Best of both worlds really, we get rid of the smug git and get to pass judgement on the coalition!

Should be interesting. I reckon you'll see the big guns from all parties as they will be regarded not so much as a re-run or a bye election but as a test of the Coalition and of and Labours ability to oppose.
Stand by for saturation TV coverage. I trust we'll see you standing behind Nick Robinson with a placard.
What would you write on it?

Of course, if the Lib Dem candidate stands on the same manifesto he would be guilty of the same.

Why?
Two reasons (in my opinion). The first is obviously that the Lib Dems are getting totalled in the polls right now and I don't think Oldham East is going to be in any way different to the rest of the country in that regard; the second is that even though the court's backed the Lib Dems it's as good as saying "Oi, thickos, this guy lied to you and you didn't notice. Now vote for me instead you dunderheads."

All the news reporting, and this thread, seems to be jumping the gun somewhat. Woolas is seeking a judicial review to overturn the ruling. The Commons Speaker has it in his hands to call a by-election and will have to consider any future legal proceedings in his considerations. Whilst Woolas might have overstepped the mark, I think this ruling has major implications for future elections.

well, yes, you may well be right. However, he did not just overstep the mark - the High Court found him guilty of knowingly making false statements about Mr Watkins in campaign literature.

Yes and that's the mark he overstepped - the one that divides true from false.

When I first saw the reports it said Woolas was not appealing. Obviously that has now changed.

You need to slow down Jon or is it simply that you are the go-to guy whenever this forum needs a know-it-all voice who thinks himself clever by getting the news first? You also need to type in a regional accent and add some more colloquialisms. Magna res est vocis et silentii temperamentum
