where's the harm? none in theory but it depends on what you want to print as per my other questions.....

Now this thread asked if anybody was an expert - I suggest you stay off it and find another one about boring folk to death

The day I become an expert in printers is the day to give up. My expertise on the subject is limited to the fact that I've printed thousands of pages over the years; all at work.

You claim to be an expert, so share your expert knowledge.

Expanding the question, then.

1. The "best" SOHO letter-quality monochrome laser printer these days?

( My Brother HL1250 is 9 years old, had one replacement drum and I use ARMOR toner and print maybe 100 pages a week. Brother own high capacity toner costs £100.

2. What about colour lasers si I don't have to buy pre- printed invoices and letterheads?

3. "best " high-quality photo/CD label printer. My Epson Stylus Photo inkjet 950 is some 7 or 8 years old.

1)I can understand why you may feel that - people who know jack all about things often make those comments - an example may be becoming an expert in moving groceries into a supermarket - hardly rocket science.
2) so you have no expertise hence the reason to leave it to the experts
3) I am awaiting responses before i can advise

not difficult to comprehend really is it?
Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

1) Give samsung a go - ML-1665 is cheap as chips (try Amazon of technoworld) but great quality printing although 100 pages per month might be a bit heavy duty for it so try Samsung ML-2580
2) The difference in prices nowadays allow you to go colour and eradicate the use of buying letterheads etc as you mentioned. Look out for good offers form Brother, Samsung or HP
3) Epson are probably renowned as the best photo printers - again try Amazon for best range and pricing

If your occasional use printer only costs £100 for copier/scanner/printer where's the harm? Do go on.....

Best advice; print at work.

I do print at work but I find it inconvenient and more time consuming. I have to get in earlier of a morning to print stuff out.

My Job is selling printers - couple of questions...

Do you need colour?
I would like to have colour yes, even if I would use it infrequently

What sort of length of time do you need your documents to last once printed?
Not too bothered to be honest, most of them are photocopied once printed out.

Is A4 maximum size?
Yep A4 will do fine

Do yo uneed to be able to do 6x4 photos (obviouslyh irrelevant if you don;t need colour)
No, that wouldn't be necessary

Do you want an all in one (print, scan and copy)
It's not essential as I could use my old Epson for that, although it would be beneficial to have it all in one if the deal was cheap enough.

I could bore you forever with reasons not to use compatibile media but all I'll say is that it's cheap for a very very good reason.

Like I've said on other posts, the things that most rile me about the Epson printer is the expensive ink and often inability to use compatible inks. Also I despise how they decide when I can no longer use the ink, and not allow me to print grey scale if I have a full black cartridge.

The price of the ink and length it lasts would probably be the biggest issue for me.

Something like the below would be fine for your requirements - 2 cartridges, one colour and one black means that if the colour one goes you can still print in monochrome.

the other god thing about going for HP is that nearly everywhere sells their inks so you should never struggle to get aything in a hurry.

All HP's come withan istallation disk that can be a bit of a pain as they put some stuff on your PC that you may not require but depending on your capabilities you can do a custom install.

The one thing would recommend installing is the application that tells you how much ink you'e go left!

Also remember tht with all rinters the inks that come with the unit WILL NO LAST VERY LONG - they are very low capacity - always buy a spare sewt of inks and judge it's capabilities on the new ones once installed
