Well the teams for this week's 4 Nations final have been settled. New Zealand and Australia will line up against each other this Saturday evening at Suncorp Stadium, Queensland at 7.15 pm local time.

It the last chance this year to enter one of our tipping competitions.
The main question is the first one.

1. Name the WINNING TEAM ... Australia or New Zealand
2. Name the first PLAYER to score
3. Predict the HALF TIME SCORE
4. Predict the FULL TIME SCORE
5. Tot 'em up and give us the match POINTS TOTAL (tie breaker for the champion tipster award if needed)
6. Poll question this week: Which of the teams will score 20 or more points.

Here's your chance to either enter for the first time, or finish with a flourish.

Good Luck to you and may the best team win! biggrin.gif

Well done Mr Archer and the other assistants you are consistantly the worst officials i have seen.

Forget the RL rules of forward passes and touch lines lets play by our own rules and keep our eyes closed for the important parts of the game. rolleyes.gif

Well done to the KIWIS a hard fought game from both sides saw the true champions emerge victorious.

Aussies looked out of sorts and never really looked like coming out on top but even an out of sorts Aussie team would have woooped the English today.

Roll on 4 years time when our young team may have a chance of competing against either of todays finalists, i say 4 years because thats how long it will take for us to reach the standards of todays teams. sleep.gif

I read somewhere that Oz are chickening out of the next 4 nations in UK and it will be NZ, GB, Wales and France.
Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Added later:

"NZ have denied they will travel to the Northern hemisphere in 2012 for a Four nations tournament not involving Australia. A more likely scenario would see the Kiwis play Australia in May and October, with England invited to tour in November"

I thought this bit above was some journos windup but it appears to be aimed at getting England a finals berth tongue.gif

Meanwhile, it has emerged that England and New Zealand are considering playing a Four Nations Series without Australia in the lead-up to the 2013 World Cup.

There is currently a blank in the international schedule for 2012, when Australian officials want to give the players a summer off after three consecutive Four Nations competitions since the last World Cup in 2008.

A Kiwi tour of the UK has been proposed but England and New Zealand believe there could be enough interest to warrant playing a Four Nations without the Kangaroos and may invite Wales and France to make up the numbers.

What a final and how different it was than the previous week's meeting of the two teams.

It was an arm wrestle of a game with the Aussies not able to dominate. I thought they looked oddly out of sorts. there were too many mistakes in the game for it to be called a classic. Still it was a final with the extra pressure that brings. I thought the Roos would have had the confidence and momentum to have won it.

The Kiwis though had other ideas. I must say I liked the look of the Kiwi squad from the outset. It was packed not just with players with NRL experience but top NRL players who were mostly form players from the season and particularly the second part of the season. Benji Marshall was stand out man of the game for me, probably the series.

On Barney's point about referees I'd just say that my issue with the refs is that they should have been neutral. I'm not saying the overall outcomes would have been different, it just makes common sense.

As for our tipping competition, well the final certainly gave some of us a jolt - our top three leaders in our tipping ladder going into the weekend all got it wrong - DJDJDJ, GLasD and 1976PMJwires.

So let's see how we did in this week's comp and how the results affected the overall outcome.

Rugby League 4 Nations Final

Result:

Australia 12 - 16 New Zealand

1. Here's our tipping results for the final

Barney 1
1976PMJwires 0
DJDJDJ 0
G Las D 0
Rugby Female 1
Kiwityke 1
Bourbon Rat 1

2. First Player to Score: Brent Tate (Roos) with a try in the third minute of the game.

None of us picked Brent to do this.

3. Half Time Score: Australia 6 - 6 New Zealand None of us took the draw here. The nearest to the scores was Kiwityke with his 10 -8 (+6)

4. Full Time Score: Australia 12 - 16 New Zealand
We all consistently went for higher totals of points for the game. The nearest to the score was Barney(+2, +6 = +8) who got the winning team correct and was the nearest to the points scored. Second was Kiwityke (+14) third Rugby Female (+16) and fourth Bourbon Rat (+18)

Total of Points: 28

None of us forecast this exact number ... ... ... The nearest was Barney (+8)

So in match tipping terms four of us top scored: Barney, Rugby Female, Kiwityke and Bourbon Rat - the ones who picked a Kiwi win. The tie breaker (total points) means that this week's champion tipster is therefore Barney (+8)

Congratulations to our winners this week.
Thanks to all for taking part.

I'll produce an animated award for this week and update the thread of our 4 Nations 2010 Comp results at the top of the forum's front page.
