I don't know what it is but there is just something hypnotic sat listening and watching a vinyl lp going around. Digital just does not have that aura. Currently playing Hotel California on my Rega Planar 3 the original early one with thick glass platter and the Rb 200 tone arm. The only way for me.

My turntable's temporarily unavailable for use. Can't wait to get it back and spinning again.

Vinyl rules. Being the sad person I am, I have a room in my house devoted to the stuff.
May have to go and play some records now…

Sign me up for analogue addicts too.

There is something slightly reassuring about the crackle of the record and the dust but for me this is the age of convenience and quality. I remember ruining a few records by leaving them out in the sun and they used to get awfully scratched. They were better than tapes and I love the packaging and the process more than CDs but the digital age makes music more accessible than ever and no matter what you're playing it on it's only as good as the music you're playing.
Primal Scream, Vanishing Point before you ask. Get some good headphones and a dark room and the important thing is the album.

Perhaps I'm a bit too young but I honestly can't see the benefits of vinyl. I sometimes think that vinyl fans are simply afraid to admit they're not as good as digital media through some 'Emperor's New Clothes' thingy.
Alright I get that there might be some nostalgia in this but for audio quality and ease of use it has got to be digital.

I can't understand the nostalgia for vinyl. I am old enough to have owned a few (but not many records) and tbh CDs are infinitely better.
Why do people get nostalgic for vinyl when nobody cares about tapes?

Vinyl is making a comeback as people are realizing that it doe sound better than digital. Cd players, music streamers etc need DAC's to convert the source to analogue and unless you can afford a Naim or Linn you never get the same reproduction. Analogue rules.

Nope, vinyl just sounds better.
It's as simple as that.

Not for me - I find it distracting and annoying. A clean, quiet record is what it's all about, not bogus nostalgia.
And I'm no Luddite either - the majority of my listening these days is from hard drive, played through Foobar 2000 (with ASIO drivers) via a Bluetooth connection to the hi-fi. But a good LP can knock your socks off. It may require more care in looking after the discs and playing, but it is rewarding.

Cassettes were about convenience, not quality. They weren't even originally designed as a music format. I'm sure there are some Nakamichi owners who are nostalgic for cassette, mind.
As for the sound quality available off LP, check out Vinyl done right and listen for yourself.

Play poor quality MP3 files over a big soundsystem and you can tell the difference. Ditto CDs - very loud and harsh on the ears. Vinyl, on the other hand, is lovingly balanced and deliciously warm.
When I DJ, I actually use mostly digital formats (albeit with vinyl controllers - Serato Scratch Live to be exact), but I spend a lot of time and effort getting my vinyl rips sounding good (i.e Wavs, good quality needles, cables, mixer etc).

Plus, records are a great thing to own. Lovely big card covers, nice artwork, great smell of freshly cut vinyl etc. CDs just aren't the same.
