what's the news about young Andy Yates Steve is he in with a shout this year and is Mathew ready for a centre position i know you think hes the real deal so i go along with your selection think my subs would be picked purely on who paul thinks would have the most impact off the bench and fitness would be the other main factor. I would include Danny Rats as he would cover any back position quite adequately but to be really competitive in this league every man jack must be able to go flat out throughout the whole 80 mins or they will be found wanting.

suzzy - not seen andy play yet but certainly looks a big unit with good upperbody strength, coming from sthelens i would certainly expect him to be pushing for a 1st team starting line up, could be a real dark horse.
josh - obviously you havent seen harding play so thats fair enough, if you had im sure he,d be in your line up.Id agreee about Caka IF fit could turn out to be a real signing, his early form with Gateshead esp when they played us was decent and the one thing these south sea islanders posses is the ability to offload createing for others.I,ll reserve judgement about Mclocklan though until ive seen more of him, certainly not rated by York fans...

I think we'll see a continuation of the squad rotation system, at least in the threequarters and front row, and having no second team, possibly in other positions as well. I hope the likes of Yates and Harding are able to force their way into contention and play their part as the season goes on, but initially I think it will be mostly a case of "as you were", except for the like-for-like changes in the squad.

So, I reckon we'll start the season something like

1 Kain
2 Pryce
3 McHugh / Oakes / Clayton
4 Clayton / Oakes / McHugh
5 Barnett
6 Grimshaw
7 P.March
8 Sullivan
9 Chapman / Haigh
10 Houston
11 Blakeway
12 Haughey
13 D.March

14 Lowe
15 Woodcock
16 Haigh / McLocklan
17 Ratcliffe

In my view the assembled squad is probably good enough to keep us away from the relegation spots, there's plenty of experience at this level (or above) but, as we know, it's been a while for some of them, the competition standard in general has gone up in the meantime, and no-one's getting any younger ...

... and then there's the thorny issue of hitting an injury crisis without a reserve team back-up ...

With a squad of 25/26 we should be able to overcome any injuries as I doubt that we would have 7 or 8 players out injured at one time. We also have players with the ability to play in more than one position.
Without a Reserve team I was pleased to read that we will be concentrating a lot more on the Parkside Hawks team next season.
Have faith in the coach and the management team -- they know what they are doing.

None of first team squad played for reserves last season except for Rob Kelly who was coming back from injury in fact Parkside Hawks would have beaten the reserve team if they had played so it is understandable why they have gone down that route.
