I think it's an excellent PR exercise by the club and will maximise publicity. I hope all future announcements are handled as professionally.

"I spoke with Brain Noble before signing him,” added the Chairman, “and he feels he will prove to be a human wrecking ball in the Championship. He is the type of player I want at the club – someone capable of playing at Super League standard.”
Sounds good !

I wonder who the second signing will be, if it's still happening ?
There was supposed to be two new signings announced this week according to the Evening Mail.

Totally agree Steve. After speaking to Des last night I think there could be more reason for excitement in the near future before he goes on his holiday to Australia!
He has been working very hard behind the scenes it would seem in bringing another top quality signing to the Club. Thackery should all being well prove a trmendous signing for the Club.
Let's hope that we have better luck than last year!

Almost 200 Super League appearances. 3 GB caps. Only just turned 31.
Our forwards will be a fearsome bunch next season ..... James, Mossop, Thackray, Catic, Knowles, Fletcher, Luisi ... and presumably more to come. Hopefully Brett and Jamie Butler will commit soon as well.
A signing we could only dream about 2-3 years ago.

Agreed, a really strong pack so far, add to that Ostler, and possibly Youngy ???, injuries permitting we should be strong challengers once again !!!!
Roll on 2011 !!!!!!

Not impressed by this signing at all.
In fact as I stated in another thread I have little confidence in the club getting anything but bad things from this signing. Before I get shouted down about giving him a chance, I have first hand knowledge and I remember the same chances being offered to Reed and Bell, how did they repay us?
This makes the coaching appointment even more critical, the introduction of a player of Thakeray's temprement can have a destabilising effect on a squad and with players with strong personalities already the potential for conflict in the dressing room increases.
That said, he may take what is no doubt his last chance and surprise us. I ain't hopeful though.

I would have thought that Brian Noble would have recomended JT as Brian is good friends with Des.
I think he'll be a great signing. Hope I'm right !!!!

And there's me thinking you were referring to Anthony Thackray from Widnes and not Jamie Thackray from Crusaders - silly me!
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it!

All this was said about Catic when we signed him.
I also remember some people incredibly negative about us signing Lee Briers when it was rumoured - troublemaker, lazy, upset the dressing room, likes a drink etc etc. Aint done so bad since has he ?!?
Noble can't have had many (if any) of these worries when he signed him for Crusaders and subsequently recommended him to a friend (Des). Surely he would have told Des not to bother.
Great signing for a Championship club.

I disagree. I think he will be a really really good signing! Especially in this division, I think that he will be tremendous.
Our pack will be awesome this year, we never saw Matt James last year. If he can get and stay fit he is a fantastic player as well, as is Richard Fletcher.
I thought our fitness let us down BIG time last year, so whoever the coach is lets get them as fit as DC did in our GF winning season!!
A signing of this pedigree, I agree with Steve is only something we could have dreamed of not so long ago. 2 years ago people were saying other clubs had had the best of Broady.......would you like to see him go again next year, of course.
Lets look positive on the new year, it will be as good as we make it........
