Just listened to the interview. All positive stuff - he wants to pull on the shirt and prove himself to the Raiders fans.
Can't wait.

Well done the BOD. Class signing if only he will produce the same kind of form he had for Leeds and that got him his GB call up. Should do really well in this league given that his fitness level is good!! Only time will tell. Wants again well done BOD and all concerned.

i'm not to sure about this signing, obviously a good player BUT is he any better than our own 30+ international (and Mr McDermott is still playing at international level)
should we be paying x amount of pounds for a forward who is, in my opinion, not really going to offer much more than Bret ( I know he is in a quandary with regards his business and playing pro rugby) and by all accounts can press his own self destruct button off the pitch....maybe we should be looking at players who are not coming to the end of their careers but are willing to allow the raiders to create a career for them, young and hungry.
but i'm more than prepared to give the guy a chance if the coaching staff think he's up to the task...if only we had some coaching staff
IF I LIVE BY IT I MUST BE PREPARED TO DIE BY IT

Playing for england at international level is a much higher level than playing for ireland. Irelands team is made up of mainly championship players and a few super league players whilst the england team is made up of full time super league players which is a much higher standard. If thackray was eligible to play for ireland i think he would be picked.

This is like Xfactor for RFL! Contestants judged by their exploits outside the game - we'll be having phone votes next lol. As long as egos are kept in check all should be well

and that's one aspect that leaves me hesitant at saying 'good signing'! Plus I think his best days are behind him - but, as with Harris, Holroyd, etc, many an old fiddle played on a good tune!!!

I agree with your sentiments completely towards bring in young, hungry (local) players and I'm sure the BOD would like the same and have probably searched the market for the above but personally I think every team needs an enforcer. What age do you call coming to the end of their career? I would of thought at an age of 31 brings experience and confidence to perform in this league.
As for being a loose cannon, time will tell as I've previously mentioned. There are a couple of players in our team and other teams who ain't saints!!!!

Im not too sure really about this signing. Thackery, in his first spell at Hull was devastating, hence why he got the 3 GB caps. From then on his career has hit a downward spiral of sorts - went to Leeds and couldnt break in the team, and ended up then back at Hull where he couldnt re-capture his form, and subsequently went to Crusaders. Noble has reccommended him to Des, in that sense, why didnt he re-sign him again for the crusaders??
But end of the day, saying this, i think he'll do a great job for Barrow next season, as the drop down in level may do him a world of good and allow him to stand out once again, the same way Robbie Paul has done at Leigh and Aizue has at Halifax.
heres hoping that the rumours about Brad Drew come to fruition, as Thackery will be even more devasting running off Drew and his dummy half runs..

Does Drew count considering he's been over here for a fair few years now, with Huddersfield, Wakefield and Huddersfield again???

I would certainly hope that Thackery will have a bigger impact on Raiders than Robbie Paul has done at Leigh, who IMO has been but a shadow of his former sefl since signing for them, I would put his performances for Leigh in the same category as JR for Raiders, apart from his kicking game, no better than average.

Very exciting player when he carries the ball, he will knock the defences to bits at this level
