Not having car insurance is not a minor offence (no matter how many apostrophes you put around it).

Something as 'minor' as not having car insurance may seem not too bad to the general person in the street but to an employer it could be seen as a barrier to future employment in the legal world, thats why I asked the original question as I am unsure still?

I agree. What would've happened if he had seriously injured another? How anyone can knowingly drive without insurance is baffling to me. It is a requirement in gaining a driving licence so he can't use the excuse of nit knowing. You also need it for your tax disc, so presumably if it was his vehicle, was he driving an untaxed car?

It wouldn't prevent me from doing my job per se, but the regulatory body the HPC take a dim view of registrants being done for D&D, including being struck of the register to practise.

Just to add fat to the flames, although driving without insurance may be a criminal offence, I am not sure that you get a criminal record for it unless a secondary offence is commited. Therefore solely driving without insurance may not appear as a criminal conviction on a subsequent CRB check.

Yep, it's a genuine criminal offence. If you can get an endorsement and points on your license because of it then it's a criminal offence.

Cheers for the reply.
Well he's at Uni at the mo so he's not technically qualified. Something as 'minor' as not having car insurance may seem not too bad to the general person in the street but to an employer it could be seen as a barrier to future employment in the legal world, thats why I asked the original question as I am unsure still?
Anyway he's reperesented himself in court and they have given him 2 weeks to appeal to gather more evidence as to whether this would damage his future career.

Sorry.
That's bolox.
As bad as dd or no MOT.
No tax, yes, minor to me, anyone can buy it late( ie within a month of due date, not overdue for months, but that smacks of no insurance/MOT too), but cars and drivers must be otherwise legal or pay the price.

I know someone working in law who got done for driving without insurance. But she started her own company (well several). A very shady character though for other reasons
