I agree a good signing. He has always impressed me whenever he played against us. I remember him playing for Workington and Blackpool. Only a forward and centre left to complete the squad.

Good signing and another goal kicker too and competition for places at half back which is good.

Carl Forber is an excellent player on his day. This signing might allow Ian Watson to concentrate a bit more on coaching duties.
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

all you need now is get hold of bill quinn and see if he would join your board
he always spoke highly of the lions and enjoyed watching them on a few occasions last season
i know he is looking to get back into a club and was trying to help blackpool recently?

A bit of a quantum leap there, Redhed (!) - not sure what Swinton Lions signing of Carl Forber has got to do with Bill Quinn's price of fish.

Cannot see it happening at Swinton Lions at the moment to be honest, as an agreement between John Kidd and Bill Quinn is very unlikely. They both like to run the show, as Chris Hamilton might testify. Rumour has it that Bill Quinn might be about to help launch a new club at Preston, time will tell - going to be tough to get up and running for the 2011 season, now that most of the Blackpool Panthers staff and players have already moved on.

Regardless of who is on the board, the first thing that Swinton Lions needs to secure a decent future is progress on a new ground!

Come on Duffy you have got to admit this squad is looking very tasty indeed. I can't wait for the season to start,it's a long time since we have had the pace that this squad posesses, bring it on!

There is a well proven coach in place this time though, and in the shape of Mark Smith a proven on-field leader. Their ability to motivate will hopefully make a big difference.

Wont be long before it goes #### up when we cant pay players like last year. Mark Smith will not accept a late pay packet.

Hello webke
on an earlier post i was pointing out with all your new signings you will need more income and as i know
bill quinn and his wife,i know bill wants to get back into a club,he is not interested in super league, and he was offer a position recently
he wants to help a club move up the divisions, rochdale have asked if he maybe interested
he is not involved with opening a new club at preston,he is also not interested in running the club just helping
which i believe he was going to do at blackpool,so wouldnt be a bad idea for your club to contact him??

Webke...I am assuming you are a swinton fan.

The club have assembled what looks like a very strong squad for next year, brought in a recognised coach as everyone asked and yet still we have people like you willing the club to fail.

Was you at the recent meeting at Moorside, if you was you would have heard Mark Smith state publically that he hadn't come to Swinton for the money. Now you can either believe him or not but personally I thought he was 100%genuine and will be a great asset to the lions and you are wrong to suggest anything else.

Yes I am a Swinton fan and I am also a realist - did Holroyd not say the same? If he hasnt come for the money then what has he come for?

Big differance Graham Holroyd had turned 30 and was at the end of his career.Mark Smith is in his twenties and could have gone to any number of division 1 or 2 clubs. So are you now suggesting Swinton are amongst the wealthiest, I think not, therefore you have to look at other reasons why he came, well lets see oh yes Steve McCormick maybe?

Makes a difference for someone else to be winding Alan up! We must all hear the "I've come here for the right reasons" line about 500 times a year across various sports. Its definately a cliche and it definatley deserves to be taken with a pinch of salt.

It is pretty clear that Steve McCormack has played a big role in securing several of the players in the 2011 squad, who more than likely would not have been tempted to join Swinton lions if McCormack had not been in place as coach. However it is also pretty clear that the impending wage bill will go well beyond the strength of the club's recent balance sheets. (Emphasised by John Kidd's statement at the last public meeting about income not meeting the rent for Park Lane for the majority of matches last season.)

We can but hope that: a.) On field success will actually follow (never guaranteed!), and; b.) Viability of the club beyond 2011 is not dependant on an overly optimistic forecast that income will dramatically increase.

Whilst its always nice to have a winning side, even if it happens it doesn't always translate into a huge lift in income (ask Blackpool). Virtually every club in the game has made that wrong assumption somewhere in history! At the moment it would be folly to put every available penny into the pockets of players if it means there is nothing left to secure progress with Agecroft and improve the club's profile off-the-field. Only time will tell I guess.

Thank You for that Phil, can always rely on you for a balanced argument.!!

An Inside Source who knows Steve McCormack has mentioned that the Players that have joined the Club haven't signed for Big Bucks !, but to work along side Him(McCormack) and are all up for the Challenge of getting Swinton into the Play Off Mix and Challenging the Top Teams in the Division !

Only Time will Tell !

Its a great looking squad, I just have a nagging feeling - a wish it still included Wayne English. Oh well.

Think you will find that Mark Smith is a cracking bloke and will be great to have round your club. Sure he will want paying like any other Pro but it won't be his only motivation like it is with quite a few.
