An unfounded rumour or an embarrassing U-turn on the cards ??

Pulled from another forum ...

"Rumour on the grapevine is the RFL are delaying the licensing until 2015 due to the economic climate. Putting 2 and 2 together, it seems this step will have been taken to keep Crusaders in SL as the RFL would no doubt have faced a legal challenge if Crusaders had been kept in and they'd booted another team out (such as Salford or Wakey).

Widnes obviously would be upset about the whole matter, as they seemed nailed on for 2012. I have heard the proposal of merging with Crusaders was put forward to Widnes, but was rejected. Not really sure on the full story yet, just picking up hazy details so far. Apparently, an announcement is expected tomorrow. "

Plus it was announced late last week that Featherstone won't be applying for a license this time round. So if a license (or licenses) were to be had for 2012 it leaves just Widnes, Halifax and Barrow in the pot.

im sure that i read on another forum that the RFL have changed the ruling on clubs going into administration somewhere to keep crusaders in Super League.

The whole thing stinks if you ask me.

Apparently SL clubs had a meeting about a month ago and changed the rule about clubs not being allowed in to SL or to remain in SL if they had been in administration. That was just about the time that Crusaders were having their financial plight highlighted in the press and the cynic in me would suggest that it was to preserve Crusaders in SL.

I think the stink will get a lot bigger!!!!
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but there isn't any machiavellian plot here, the RFL don't need to change the rules if they decide to retain Crusaders as a SL club.

The link and story about the change in rules relates to the criteria for Championship clubs to apply for a franchise and has nothing to do with the criteria for franchise award. This could be interpreted as a way of allowing an additional Championship club into SL who has had financial issues or it could simply be an omission when the site was updated.

As for our suitability for a SL franchise, should the slim possibility of an additional seat at the big boys table become available. Forget it! Apart from us being behind both Halifax and Featherstone with regards to the current franchise criteria, we simply do not have the infrastructure or organisation at the club to support a SL team, nor do we have any visibility of plans to address these issues. In fact we don't even have any indication that the club knows what would be required to support one.

One of the general franchise criteria was the club not being in recent financial difficulties (ie administration), this applied to ALL applicants. It wasn't just to do with championship clubs. As it was I have heard the vote went against the RFL but they went ahead and removed it anyway. Not surprised really.

Sorry folks, no forecast comp this year

Your right and I'm sure that was the reason the fed to Widnes as to why they had been over looked?

Wrong....again, are you being deliberately obtuse?. The franchise criteria are published on the same page as the application criteria and they haven't changed. There is a specific category relating to the subject of Finance and another referring to Business Management, nowhere does it make any reference to administration in the SL Franchise criteria, that is purely you choosing to interpret the criteria in a way that suits you.

The criteria you keep referring to that does not appear in the Nov version is for the application process only as previously stated and never related to any of the Championship clubs anyway.

The SL franchise criteria HAS NOT CHANGED. The RFL has no need to change it as they have the option of selecting the successful applicants against the secondary criteria dealing with subjective issues such as being judged to meet SL strategic objectives and the RFL's opinion of your future performance regardless of how they perform against the main criteria.

Until anyone can substantiate these claims with some evidence, you just sound like a bunch of idiot conspiracy theorists.
