The oldest has got to be Leigh Miners .v. Wigan St. Patricks. So intense at least one player ended up in prison!
Never seen a Hull derby, apart from in a BARLA final, but that is the most passionate RL City so I imagine one of theirs would take some beating. Biggest crowd I ever saw at a local derby would be Redhill .v. Lock Lane.

A lot of local derbies aren't as fierce as they used to be, with the disciplinary panels being so strict nowadays with such as punching in the tackle, players in the modern game are reminded all the time by their coaches how important it is, not to give penalties away. Dockers v West Hull Skirlaugh v Mysons BOCM v Ambassador spring to mind as whetting the appetite for the speckies.

I've mentioned this before on a similar thread, Wath Brow, Millom and possibly Egremont as well, withdrew from the RFU in 1898 and competed in the Cumberland competition under the Northern Union ( precursor to the RL). They will have played each other before this but that would have been in the union game.
Brow still play Millom in pre season friendlies every year, alternating the venue, and this game always pulls in one of the biggest gates of the year. Don't know whether "FRIENDLY" is the most accurate description of what happens on the field but the crack in the clubhouse(s) after the game is second to none!

What Rooster is saying is the Pats v Miners game is the conference leagues oldest derby, both sides are founder members and as yet neither side has played outside the top division playing each other in every season of the leagues existence ergo making it the national leagues oldest derby.
Pats closest rivals are Rose Bridge this rivalry goes back at least 70yrs probably longer at some levels i.e. schools, although competetive games at 1st team level have been relatively scarce during the conference era.

Pats position not great at present but still only 4 points short of a number of clubs, don't write us off yet.

I didn't really mean it Dinasore, Im well aware that Pats are a good side, and are well capable of staying up. They were not all that better off last season I think and nearly made the play offs.

It's a tight league not much between top + bottom a good run could see us climb to halfway, that said i would prefer to be sat at the top looking down rather than where we are.

I know its not conference, but Hunslet Warriors versus Queens always attracts 700 plus crowds. 80% of that crowd been from Hunslet. Always a good punch up, and plenty of Queens players wanting to fight the crowd. Always a close game aswell. Pure entertainment. The hatred between the 2 is awesome!

Cheers for that. I am sure the crowd will be swelled by a few BARLA officials now, next time they meet! ha ha!
By the way, St. Pats position looks a lot better after yesterdays result at East Hull. Well done Pats.

I will never forget the after match speech after Eccles last played at Redhill. It went something along the lines of "Well I see the NCL had an official watching us again today. It was a good clean game against Eccles. Mind you, we know if we give them a clout we get one back"!

Lets leave queens out of this debate ,cos as everyone knows they are a disgrace to arl,and contribute nothing to the game.

I understand it a Conference forum, but to say that the REIGNING NATIONAL CUP HOLDERS bring nothing to the game is a bit pathetic!!!
