The thread about Beatles songs made me think about the best cover versions of Beatles songs.
In no particular order, my favourites are:
With a Little Help from my Friends - Joe Cocker
Got to Get You Into My Life - Cliff Bennett and the Rebelrousers
Something - Shirley Bassey
Eleanor Rigby - Ray Charles
Fool on the Hill - Sergio Mendes
Yesterday - Matt Monro
Here, There and Everywhere - Andy Williams
Do You Want to Know a Secret - Billy J Kramer & the Dakotas
We Can Work It Out - Stevie Wonder
Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett
Anybody want to disagree?

I think your list perfectly illustrates that The Beatles influence and relevance stopped some time ago.

Actually I wouldn't disagree too much with that. They were a band of their time. But good while they lasted.

Get on Spotify/Last.fm/Grooveshark/whatever and see if you can get a listen of Emmylou Harris' cover of 'For no-one'. Wonderful.

I think your comment illustrates that you're no longer in touch with popular music. Don't worry, it happens to us all eventually
Beatles in hip-hop
Anyway, any fule no that the best Beatles cover is Day Tripper by Bad Brains - given how great some of PM's bass lines were, maybe it's surprising more reggae bands haven't mined them.
It's not a question of coming down to earth, Mr Duxbury. Some of us, Mr Duxbury, belong in the stars.

not quite
beatles reissues and reinterpretations-such as the Love albums are selling millions. Thge beatles wii game was one of the top sellers in electronic media last year. Paul McArtney still fills stadiums.
it is true of course that nothing much new musically has emerged for a long time, but with two of the three main creative forces dead I guess its undestandable

In My Life - Jose Feliciano
No discordant piano solo and a very moving song for a funeral service.

Whilst I agree with your general point, the makers of Rock Band have said they were rather disapointed with the sales of The Beatles version, especially in the UK. Doesn't bother me though, 'cos nobody bought it, I got the full drum, guitar, mic and game for £50 after a few months on sale!

I'm sorry but I just don't 'get' The Beatles - never have and I guess I never will. To me they're just a good pop band from the 60's who wrote a few, and no more, good songs. Plenty of better bands amongst their contemporaries.

nobody is saying you should have to. This and the other thread certainly don't make that assumption in their titles.

There were some good bands in those days, but 'better' is a personal judgement, sometimes depending on the mood you happen to be in, at least in my case.
As a matter of interest, which bands did you think were better than the Beatles?

I am not suggesting they do Chris. I am merely saying that I don't like The Beatles and I don't think they had 10 good songs let alone 10 of them that were covered.

My DJ/production parnter Oli has an insane album of Beatles covers - all from the White Album - by Ramsey Lewis. It's called 'Mother Nature's Son'. Absolute genius, or at least the bits I've heard.
He seemed to have a thing for Beatles covers - he did loads… in a soul-jazz piano jam style.
