Is anyone watching this series?
Being stuck in the comedy/cultural abyss that is Australia I must admit I have loved every minute of this series so far.
I can see how it could be classed as a bit self indulgent, but I think the subtle pathos running through it and some of the impressions and banter are fabulous.
But also one of the things I have loved watching is the scenery and the way the director has captured how stunning the North of England can be, it's strange how a BBC2 comedy series as heightened my desire to return home ten fold!
I also look forward to trying the restaurants on my return :-)

It's a bit hit and miss, but there are some very good bits. Not your regular comedy and probably a bit of a risk to make and broadcast.
Plus, the scenery's gorgeous and the descriptions of the food are tempting.

The matching of Joy Division and Atmosphere to the cliche 'drive through lovely countryside' shots in the first episode was great.
It's not a question of coming down to earth, Mr Duxbury. Some of us, Mr Duxbury, belong in the stars.

Missed the first episode, but loved the 2nd and 3rd. Really nice, slowly paced enjoyable comedy.
I really enjoyed the series Whites which this replaced too, not sure f that was mentioned on this board. Not a big fan of Alan Davies, but thought the cast was excellent.

Enjoying it for the combination of food, drink, scenery, comedy and opportunity to moan at the telly with the inconsistencies when they are driving. One minute they're in Langdale, then driving south along Thirlmere, then they arrive in Keswick.
And also to whinge at their pronunciation of places. It's Cartmul, not Cart-mell. I'd never heard of l'Enclume before, despite growing up near Cartmel and working up there until recently.
Since making "24 Hour Party People" Steve Coogan is turning into Tony Wilson, although there was always a bit of Tony Wilson in Alan Partridge.

The club where Eurovision isn't a dirty word. A waltz through the leopard skin lined world of Tom Jones, Bert Kampfert and Burt Bacharach. Step out to the sound of the happy hammond and swing to the seductive sounds of the samba.
DJ's, raffles, cocktails and wide collars. Please dress smart. Gentlemen might like to wear a suit.
Same price. Same music. Same rubbish prizes.

It's a quality show. Not as laugh out loud as some of their other shows but well made and humerous with just the right amount of tragedy.

I suspect that they're doing that on purpose to get up the noses of pedants. It's very different to anything else on tv, and like others I'm enjoying it.

Loved the series so far. If I ever get rich I'd be tempted to try the restaurants!
Great episode tonight. Tragic comedy.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Really enjoyed it.
Don't know why but 'its a different Bolton' line really tickled me!

Another lovely part of the country - I remember skimming stones at the big river pool on a Summer's afternoon at Bolton Abbey. I've really enjoyed the series.

I only saw the first two episodes, before I had to return here, but thoroughly enjoyed them. We were both delighted to see them in the Inn at Whitewell, just a couple of days after we'd had lunch there on our way to stay at the Sun Inn at Kirby Lonsdale.
I'm looking forward to a weekend at TIatW in Feb, when I get back home again.

One of the funniest comedies I had seen in a long time. A bit self-indulgent but I think that added to it in an odd way. Coogan is brilliant and Brydon showed his best work since Marion and Geoff
"The whole point of rugby is that it is, first and foremost, a state of mind, a spirit."
