Totally underwhelmed. mellow.gif

Surely this is no more than posturing for a potential Super League franchise which we aint gonna get.

We need a proper coach not some has been "celebrity" to pander to the media etc.

Nice one Des thats us going backwards. huh.gif

You obviously know nothing about Nigel Wright's background. Between the 2 of them the club will have all bases covered - on and off the pitch.

Winner of the award for Least Informed Post Of The Day!

If ou don't like my comment please explain the following.

How it is "posturing for a potential Super League franchise"?

How either fails to qualify as a "proper coach" in comparison to the previous 3 incumbents?

Why is it a backwards step to employ two established, respected and connected individuals to provide the club with media, promotional, technical and conditioning skills, coupled with experience of the game at an international level?. Albeit the international experience is pre Super League, ie. when we could at least beat the Aussies every third game or so.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I wasn't impressed with Thackaray's signing, but at least I substantiated my moaning, by stating why I disagreed. rolleyes.gif

Its my opinion so live with it. I was specifically referring to the ex leeds idiot (whats he been doing for the last 10 years?) not Nigel Wright who I hold in high esteem.

backward steps????? we done all them last season in my opinion. when we got beat last season we were well and truly beat. no energy came from the team, fitness was a farce and it was a bit embarassing to se an all conquering squad from the season before playing half a game then waiting for the hooter to go. if mccormack was still here we would be fighting off a relegation place imo.
des has put a strong character in the hot seat with a number 2 of equal admiration.maybe this is th time when des stands in the background as he has stated he wants to in the next season or so and let the club run its self. i am sure schoey will print just as many eye brow raising quotes in the mail and rugby tabloids as des has over the last couple of seasons and get the other clubs bitching about the big time charlie brown envolopes BARRA.
craven park next season is going to be on the lips of many away fans agenda hoping to take the p**s out of us but if we all give the new guys the usual raws of the craven park faithfull im sure it will be business as usual..

Do me a favour about Des stepping in to the background I suppose you believe in fairies as well mate.

Des does what Des wants and if anyone doesn't like it they're out the door.

He's a one man ego trip.

Where has "schoey" been for the last 10 years? We need a proper coach not a media "face".

A proper coach would kick the backsides of the lazy players who didn't do the business last year but took the money right enough.

Schofield will bring us nothing and will be gone again probably even before the season begins.

Yet another prophet of doom - even before a ball has been kicked in anger. I'm sure you'll be back on here as soon as the team loses a match.

'I hate Des'
'I hate the coach'

With 'fans' like you, the club doesn't need enemies.

I'm a realist mate who's been following the club for nearly 50years through good and mostly bad.

No I won't follow the party line of "Des is great" because I have a mind of my own and if others don't like what I say thats tough. I'm not pushing my views down anyones throat but equally don't expect to be chastised if my views are perhaps different to others.

I really hope it turns out well but I don't believe it will sad.gif

I think Garry Schofield and Nigel Wright are enterprising selections and you can see where Des Johnston is coming from. He wants entertaining RL and with these two in charge he should get it. Schofield is never short of an opinion and life around Craven Park next season will be a lively place to be. Best of luck to the new coaches and lets hope Barrow have a good season and get the attendances needed for Super League application. I am pleased that Jon Sharp did not get the job - when he was chief coach at Hull and Huddersfield they played dull and predictable rugby.

You didnt have to worry about Jon Sharp he didnt want the job the club approached him i am led to believe.

As for your coaching set up now time will tell but give them a chance i think too many were branding big names about that were never going to go to Barrow(dont take that the wrong way). Once they get started they will know who the lazy ones are taking the high pay packets and the ones that want to play for Barrow. I think its no suprise that some players are on big money and i dont know what you think but i would rather have players playing for my club that want to be there to play not just for money.

As people may know when Fev signed Daryl he got rid of some players that were on good wages when their contracts were up and brought some in that many fans didnt know and i think your new coaching set up may well do the same in time thats if they are allowed to.

Good luck next season hope they do well for you and get the best out of the players

Well I think its a master stroke of genius by the BOD. IMHO

Glad to see the back of Steve Mc what's his name.........The players were only fit for 2 of the games of last season and they were when Clarky was in charge.

I personally cant wait for next season...........

So stop bitchin...lets give these 2 guys a chance!

As Holty says the proof's in the pudding! We dont want puddings we want Rock cakes!!! laugh.gif

Lets kick on and kick some ass!

I'm as excited as everybody at the prospect of a real past star being appointed and seeing fit players playing fast open rugby. I am surprised that nobody has mentioned a previous coach who played for Castleford and then Hull. I rank him as high as Schofield as a player but he made a rotten job of coaching Barrow. I have to admit that although I've followed the Club for 50 years (like Dave P) my memory is not what it was.

I hate to say this but I'm not very hopeful of long queues being formed at the gates. Times have changed. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm alot more optimistic this year than I was last especially with the appointment of Nigel Wright as his assistant which I think is a very good move. I cant see Gary Schofield being the most hands on coach hence the appointment of Nigel Wright. Personally I hope they put the foundations and infrastructure in place for the future, build bridges with the amatuer game and not just concentrate on success on the pitch.

Well i think everyone just needs to get behind them and at least give them a chance. At least we should see a fit team next season with Wright on board who will hopefully give them a good flogging. Get another 10 players signed up and things will look a lot rosier! Roll on 2011.

Probably the most pessimistic couple of posts I have seen in a long time. I don't know much about the coaches myself but i'm sure he will do his best job and by the sound of it he will probably make the team play attacking rugby league. Saying the that the coach is going to leave before the season starts and that des isn't doing a good job is just abit on the negative side. Any chance you are hoping we get relegated this season?

Just been browsing the Fax & Widnes forums to discover their reaction to this appoitment, came across comments such as;

"I'll give him till christmas" etc etc.

I know we shouldnt read into or be bothered by anything opposing fans say, however I suppose they may have a point. Garry is renowned for his tendency to speak his mind and "say it how it is". A big, confident personality is usually a sound attribue for a successful coach, however I just hope this doesnt result in another coach-chairman clash. The last thing we need next season is instability. However, a good appoitment IMO.

Think id have gone for an assistant coach at a SL club, much like Wigan and Saints did with their coaching appointments from the NRL (Maguire / Simmons). Think that appointing Wright is a great coup for the club, as he certainly has the experience to get the club going in the right direction, and do what Ostler was asking for which is to get the players fitter than they were last year so that they can play expansive rugby for 80mins.
As i said , I, like everyone else im sure would have loved Nobby Noble here, even if it was for a year, just for the development he could have brought. If not, someone like Peter Sharp = formally of Hull would have been great, or Adrian Lam
