Castleford are expected to confirm the signing of the disgraced former Canberra and Australia centre Joel Monaghan later this week.

Monaghan, a 27-year-old who was humiliated when pictures of him in a compromising position with a dog were published on Twitter, has agreed to link up again with the Tigers coach Terry Matterson, who was an influence on his development at Canberra.

However he will only sign a one-year contract, leaving open the possibility of joining his elder brother Michael at Warrington next season.

In the SMH it says Catalans may put in a last minute bid for him but Cas are faves.

Seems a good move all round. Joel gets to settle into the English way of life (or French) and SL style of play then moves to Wazza and joins Wire in 2012 with brother Mick. biggrin.gif

Glad to see you're amused by the thought of Warrington taking on one the more embarrassing NRL rejects Wendall. No doubt we'll be seeing promo pics of Monaghan with a toy Wolfie stuffed down the front of his shorts as a prelude to the 2012 season kickoff.

Dark in the city, night is a wire
Steam in the subway, earth is a fire
Do-do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do
Woman you want me, give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do-do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do

In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf

They certainly are DO-DO mate wink.gif
Think it's a disgrace any club would actually consider signing him.

reckon he'll end up at the dragons.. especially now they have some cash with Carlaw going home..

as ridiculous his actions were, there's always gonna be a few clubs who will happily take him on, as he is a very good player.

signing for teams like the dragons or cas could change their potential seasons greatly, for the better.

Or more likely leaving open the possibility of a return to the NRL in 2012.

And they called it puppy love
Oh, I guess they'll never know
How a young heart really feels
And why I love her so

And they called it puppy love
Just because we're in our teens
Tell them all, please tell them it isn't fair
To take away my only dream

I cry each night my tears for you
My tears are all in vain
I'll hope and I'll pray that maybe someday
You'll be back in my arms once again

Someone, help me, help me, help me please
Is the answer up above
How can I, oh how can I tell them
This is not a puppy love

Someone, help me, help me, help me please
Is the answer up above
How can I, oh how can I tell them
This is not a puppy love

Not a puppy love

TWELFTH OF NEVER - 31/03/1973
1 week at #1 - 14 weeks on chart

You ask how much I need you, must I explain
I need you, oh my darlin', like roses need rain
You ask how long I'll love you, I'll tell you true
Until the Twelfth of Never, I'll still be loving you

Hold me close, never let me go
Hold me close, melt my heart like April snow

I'll love you 'til the bluebells forget to bloom
I'll love you 'til the clover has lost its perfume
I'll love you 'til the poets run out of rhyme
Until the Twelfth of Never and that's a long, long time

Until the Twelfth of Never and that's a long, long time
(That's a long, long time)
(That's a long, long time)

Would have thought that would be a good move for him, away from the press spotlight.

Then again, his recent behaviour is probably less surprising to Cas folk. ph34r.gif
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:

Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.

It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.

Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

Are you trying to say he'd just come and spend a year on Caniche-Plage?

Prat - nobody can afford a dog in Cas

I don't think any of our squad have been in prison though or lost their license for drink driving either? Still, Wazza Wazza eh!
Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

Posted Image

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

Catalans Dragons have joined the hunt for disgraced Australia international Joel Monaghan.

Warrington Wolves have agreed to provide a refuge for the 28-year-old threequarter, who quit Canberra Raiders earlier this month following the publication on the internet of a lewd photograph of him, as he decides on his next move.

The New South Wales winger, who was a member of Australia’s World Cup final team in 2008, is currently staying with his older brother, Warrington hooker Michael Monaghan, and has been given permission to train alongside him at the Wolves.

“Because of the family connection and a request from Michael, we have agreed for Joel to train with us in the short term until he finds himself a club,” said a Warrington spokesperson.

Despite being ostracised in Australia, Monaghan will have no difficulty finding an Engage Super League club, with up to seven clubs reported to have expressed an interest.

Castleford Tigers, whose boss Terry Matterson coached the player for three years during his stint as assistant boss at Canberra, were thought to be favourites to secure Monaghan as a straight replacement for recently-retired centre James Evans.

But Monaghan is also thought to be on the wanted list of Crusaders RL, who cannot make a move while in administration, and was today reported to be visiting Catalans, who have a vacancy on their overseas quota following the decision of Dane Carlaw to return to Australia.

“There’s been more interest in Joel over there than in royal engagement souvenirs,” Monaghan’s manager Jim Banaghan told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Monaghan has told friends he will not make a decision on his future until consulting his family when he returns home for Christmas but new Catalans coach Trent Robinson is hopeful of snaring the player.

“He is coming today and will stay for a couple of days,” he said. “I don’t know Joel so I want to meet him but we have had a few chats on the phone and hopefully he will feel comfortable here.

“I think everyone deserves a chance at redemption and we have talked about that. If it does end up that we offer him a contract, then he has a decision to make about lifestyle.”

I hope he remembers that a dog is for life, not just for Christmas.
