No excuse for Nazi comments, but the guy he said it to was a nasty piece of work wanting to massively raise EU spending at a time when countries are having to make huge cuts, and blaming us for blocking it

Quite right. Sadly followed up by an excuse;

Good - EU spending might be the only thing that saves and creates jobs in this country and others.

Surely this could be funded from the revenue from the Royal wedding?

Then why would give the cash over to the EU to distribute?

Let them see if anyone gets excited about one of the EU President's sprogs getting hitched.

Putting the unemployed into unnecessary unproductive "jobs" is as useful as putting the unemployed on incapacity benefit, and equally hard to undo when you need to.

Indeed given the interfering nature of many of these non-jobs and their need to justify themselves, sticking people on incapacity benefit (or whatever its called these days) is arguably a less bad idea.

Bloom's comments are childish and unjustified.

It's not an excuse for calling him a Nazi, but it is right to be more than a bit annoyed at him for wanting countries struggling to stay afloat to waste even more money in the EU. The anti-democratic comment was perfectly fair enough though

It will create plenty of jobs in the Belgian champagne trade or paying farmers not to grow crops but the UK would be better off keeping the extra money to spend itself

Looks like we know the real reason the German wanted the higher budget rise:

http://www.dailymail...ges-ruling.html

Apparently the 6% EU budget rise was to see a doubling of the entertainment budget, free lunches for all Eurocrats and an increased propaganda budget. Hmmm...
