Dobson

Dobson is fresh back from a year in Australia and declared an interest in returning to his former professional club.
But Charlton says he needs to see the prop in action before he can make a decision and has advised him to return to his amateur roots where he and fellow coach Martin Oglanby can then watch him in a game situation.
Dobson left West Cumbria last November to spend a year Down Under and returned much fitter and stronger from his spell in the Aussie game.
The former Glasson amateur spent time playing for both North Devils A-grade and North’s feeder club Aspley.
With North Devils being a feeder club for the Brisbane Broncos he has rubbed shoulders with some of the stars of the NRL, both playing with and against them.
But Charlton said: “Peter came down to training on Tuesday and I said to him that if he wants a contract at Workington, then he has to go back to amateur and play there so we can see him.
“We will definitely have a look at him and then we will see what materialises from there.”
I think this could be a bad move tbh! We should just get the lad signed up he can obviosly do the job.

seriously your comparing dobson to two of our best signings in recent years, young and stacky?they came over from scouting reports from peter walsh.whom im sure is regarded massively around the club.stack was an australian school boy player,so it wasnt exactly the biggest gamble ever.i think you must be peters mate and thats why you seem so bothered about if he signed or not.obviously the lad didnt show any improvements at training,so was given sound advice to prove his worth at amateur.and he played average in his last season for town,if hes improved so much then he WILL be signed when he has proven it.we have ginge, jacko, coward, mcgoff and mckenna,do we really need any more props to be sitting around taking up wages that could be spent on a good half back?

im not comparing him to them im just saying all we have is peter walsh`s word! yes that is a very good word to take but didnt he send bryce poisel and franco kmet over aswel???? if you look at the topic saying dobbo from a while back you in a round about way say he should sign wonky! as for knowing him your wrong i think ive spoken to the lad once after a game! if you look at last season at times we had 6 props on our books so whats the difference with this year?? mckenna is a secon row aswel.

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Thats what i mean what if haven decide we will have him he is near enough guarenteed a game through ther if not with the 1st team then with the reserves. Im not saying sign him just so they cant have him, to be honest i would take the chance on him we did with rhodes so why not someone that has already proven that he can cope with our league in a poor team! Put him in this years team and you never know what might happen with some decent players around him? If he isnt making the grade then dont play him or release him!!!

lets hope he doesnt end up going to the jampots and end up being a very good signing for them by having a great season at the wreck!! possibly shooting ourselves in the foot springs to mind.
